This sweet, beautiful boy was abandoned, and picked up just this fall by the SPCA. When he arrived at the home of his foster parent he was starvation-thin, with a body score of 2/9. His foster mom, a fiercely devoted soul who literally saved his life, did not think he was going to make it. But he has. And this is where I come in.
Horses need herds. And my mare, who came into my life in 2023 as a dream come true and the first of what I knew would be many, to partner with humans in a healing and heart-opening way, is now moving to a home where she needs a companion, so as not to live afraid and alone.
In my search for a companion, I looked for local free leases and horses whose folks just needed them rehomed. (My goal was not, so you know, a $25K performance horse. My vision is not 'equestrian facility'. It is Sanctuary, for horses to give and receive love, teaching, healing, scratches, massages, kisses... more love...)
And then I found this rescue. And he's it.
Now nursed back to health and no longer starving, this gelding is All love. He has some medical issues that make him a less-than-ideal candidate for rehoming to the average equestrian, but that is why I feel so passionate about bringing him into my care. This amazing horse bears no resentment towards humans, no defensiveness, no fear. He is forgiveness and love. (And some silly.)
So I have said yes to the call to care for this boy till the end of his days. (He is estimated to be 19.)
I have the means to feed and provide for him. I have the space, the time, the love and devotion, the skills, the desire, the passion. And ultimately (with a heart like his it's a given) I am bringing him in to share his healing heart with you, the community.
What I am asking for today is just a little bit of help here at the outset, to smooth and expedite this boy's arrival to Salt Spring Island. With your help, even just a little bit of help, I can bring this boy over ASAP, and cover all his initial expenses with ease and abundance, rather than stress.
