Acupressure, Myofascial Release, Massage - Salt Spring Island
Licensed and Insured Member of NHPC. It creates profound, energized, deep relaxation with lasting effect. What is Acupressure?
Five Elements Acupressure relieves Pain, Tension, Stress, Grief, Fatigue, Insomnia, assists with Injuries, illness, and promotes recovery. Acupressure is 5,000 years old and is the precursor of acupuncture. Five Elements Acupressure blends Japanese finger pressure techniques, Acupuncture theory, Traditional Chinese Medicine theory, and Five Element theory, which is based on the natural cycles in t
he environment and within ourselves.
• Gentle yet deep sustained finger pressure is applied to the same points on the body that are used in acupuncture. The stimulation of these points can relieve pain, tension, stress, grief, fatigue, insomnia, assist with injuries, illness, and promote recovery.
• The client remains clothed (except in a combined Massage-Acupressure treatment), lying on a comfortable, padded massage table. No needles are used, only finger pressure.
• Acupressure accesses the body's innate ability to heal, and creates profound, energized, deep relaxation with lasting effect. It releases endorphins, increases circulation, can strengthen weaknesses, and prevent health disorders. The body, mind, and spirit are inextricably connected. Five Element Acupressure is designed to discover the root cause of discomfort in the body, mind, and spirit. Each treatment is tailored to the client’s specific needs.

Studies have shown that applying pressure to muscle, as in an Acupressure treatment, increases blood flow to the muscle, which increases oxygen delivery to the muscle. Oxygenated muscles perform better. An oxygenated body is more energetic and vibrant. An oxygenated mind is calm and clear.

As the transition begins into Winter, with shorter daylight hours and colder, wet weather, we may feel like hibernating. And why not? While nature is resting and dormant, so should we be. Winter is the time for Rest, reflection, quiet, and listening; for restoring our energy for the coming Spring. Kidney and Bladder are the associated organs for Winter. Joint problems, low back pain, sciatica, fatigue, and ear problems are all “winter” symptoms that are well addressed by Acupressure.

In Five Element theory, Fall is the season of Letting Go, and Letting Come. Letting Go of old, stagnant things that do not serve us anymore, such as an object, a state of mind, or an idea, and Letting Come the new and the fresh. Just as the trees let go of their leaves every fall, making room for the new, fresh growth in the spring, letting go allows us to grow. The Lung and Large Intestine (Colon) are the associated organs for Fall. The associated emotion is Grief for the letting go aspect, but also Self-worth, Receptivity, and Respect for letting new things come to us.
At this time, if we need release, are blocked or stagnant, we may experience constipation, colds, and skin rashes. We may also feel mentally “constipated”, stuck, or lost.
If you’ve never tried Five Elements Acupressure before, this is an excellent time to open the door to this amazing healthway. And if you are not new to acupressure, you already know the many health benefits of its deep body and mind relaxation.
