Happy International Sunglasses Day!
The quality of sunglasses is important. Sunglasses with anti-reflective coating on both sides of the lens are better as it prevents both front and back glare. In addition to UV protection, the quality of the materials and consistency of the tints is crucial in providing good optics for comfortable viewing. Imperfections in the lenses can distort vision, causing a mild headache or eyestrain when the sunglasses are worn.
Come on in if you have any questions or if you'd like us to check your current sunglasses are fully UV protected.

June is Cataract Awareness Month! A cataract forms when the clear lens inside your eye becomes cloudy. It can affect vision and generally develops as people get older. Cataracts can develop slowly over many years or rapidly progress over a few months. When a cataract is “ripe”, it can be easily treated with cataract surgery.
Regular eye exams are the best way to know if they are developing.

It's Vision Health Month.

Don't Wait For Red Flags in Your Vision
Accidentally texting your boss instead of your spouse? Leaning into your laptop so close people think you're about to kiss the screen? Stubbing your toe all the time? Those are red flags.

When it comes to your vision, waiting for a sign means you’ve waited too long. Your optometrist has the expertise to detect potential problems early, ensuring your vision stays clear for years to come.

Why children should wear sunglasses:
1) Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is an invisible component of sunlight.
2) Exposure to UV is cumulative and can lead to long term eye health problems.
3) Children receive about 3x the annual adult dose of UV.
4) Children’s eyes have less capability to filter UV than adult's eyes. The WHO reports that a significant part of a person’s lifetime exposure to UV occurs before age 18.

April is Women's Eye Health and Safety Month! WHO says that women are at greater risk of developing eye conditions associated with ageing and are more likely to have major vision problems, including:
Age-related Macular Degeneration
Autoimmune Diseases (such as Lupus or Sjögren’s Syndrome)
Cataract
Dry Eye
Glaucoma
Low Vision
Thyroid Eye Disease
Refractive Error
Please make vision health a priority to help detect issues early. Consistent treatment for most eye diseases can
significantly reduce the risk of vision loss.

Why should I choose Transitions® lenses?
For three reasons:
1. For your eye health with 100% UV protection and a high level of blue-violet light filtering.
2. For style, to make your frames a work of art by pairing them with one of eight vivid colours.
3. For visual comfort at all times thanks to this lens whose tint automatically adjusts to the light around you.

March is National Nutrition Month!
Here are some nutrition tips for your eye health:
1) Leafy greens are full of anti-oxidants to protect against the damaging effects of UV rays.
2) Colourful fruits and veggies are full of Vitamin C, also an anti-oxidant.
3) Hummus! Chickpeas, as well as other legumes, contain Zinc which helps your liver release and drive Vitamin A to the retina to produce melanin to protect your eyes from ultraviolet light.
4) Fish! Omega 3s can help protect against age-related macular degeneration and dry eye.
5) Orange veggies! Carrots, yams and sweet potatos are packed with beta-carotene, an antioxidant that can help reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration and cataracts.
