Today we wear Orange Shirts in honour of Phyllis Webstad, whose bright orange shirt, a gift from her grandmother, was taken away from her on her first day of residential school at six years of age.
We recognize and commemorate the devastating legacy and ongoing trauma caused by residential schools. We honor those who were lost, along with the survivors, their families and communities who continue to be affected by this injustice.
