I am thrilled to be supporting Satya Amrita of Vedic Priestess Temple 108 and leading the Asana (postures) and Pranayama (breath extension exercises) practices at Wisdom in the Darkness: A Kali Weekend Retreat on December 2nd & 3rd at Stowel Lake Farm on Salt Spring Island.

Kālī is the Goddess of Time, Death, Rebirth and Primal Energy. She embodies raw, fierce feminine energy that slays and transforms fear and separation. Kālī is the wild power of the Sacred Divine Feminine inside us all. She helps dissolve what doesn’t serve us and supports us in healing beliefs around unworthiness while deepening into our authentic self.

Kālī is fiery, dark and powerful. But she is also a loving deity with a compassionate, nurturing energy.

By working with Kālī, we start to get in touch with our wild side, which doesn’t need outside validation. She can help us with any fears we’re navigating – the fear of change, of moving out of our comfort zone, of not succeeding, of not having enough, or of following our dreams.

Building familiarity and the courage to confront ourselves and make fundamental changes begins on the mat. During the two days together, we will explore a posture sequence designed to help you tap into outdated ways of being and seeing yourself and stoke the fire of transformation. Weaving the practice of Kali's Sword Breath throughout the asana practice will revitalize your spirit, inspire mental clarity and promote the release of that which no longer serves. Working with the same sequence on both days will increase the volume of your authentic voice, showing you the way forward.

With the early bird pricing of $350 ending on November 18th, now is the time to register for this retreat.

The ego sees Mother Kali and trembles with fear because the ego sees in Her its own ultimate dissolution. A person attached to their ego will not be open-minded regarding Mother Kali, for She will appear in a frightful form.
An evolved spirit who engages in regular practice to clear away the illusion of the ego sees Mother Kali as very warm and compassionate - full of incomprehensible love for humanity. ***Explore & discover more at our upcoming retreat, Wisdom in the Darkness: A Kālī Weekend Retreat!

As we enter the dark cycle, when the nights are longer than the days, it is time to call on the Dark Goddess Kālī and turn inwards for reflection, transformation and empowerment. We’ve been taught to fear the dark, but a potent, creative healing force exists there. Seeds take root in the darkness – and we can find a fertile underground waiting to be activated.

I. Sarah Jane Smith Lyons, am honoured to support and learn from Satya Amrita of Vedic Priestess Temple 108 during this two-day retreat of yogic practice, contemplation, workshop, storytelling and ceremony. I will lead daily Yoga asana (postures) and pranayama (breathwork) practices.

Kālī is the Goddess of Time, Death, Rebirth and Primal Energy. She embodies raw, fierce feminine energy that slays and transforms fear and separation. Kālī is the wild power of the Sacred Divine Feminine inside us all. She helps dissolve what doesn’t serve us and supports us in healing beliefs around unworthiness while deepening into our authentic selves.

Kālī is fiery, dark and powerful. But she is also a loving deity with a compassionate, mothering energy.

By working with Kālī, we start to get in touch with our wild side that doesn’t need outside validation. She can help us with any fears we’re navigating – the fear of change, of moving out of our comfort zone, of not succeeding, of not having enough, or of following our dreams.

We will learn traditional practices and inquiry techniques that tune us into her gifts and help us heal her shadow side in us, supporting us to confront our inner battles with fierce grace.

We will explore removing obstacles that prevent us from accessing our deepest power and learn practices that encourage taking a stand in our sovereignty.

Kālī shows us that not all light is good and not all darkness is bad. One cannot exist without the other. They both have a place in the world, and their balance is vital.

Dates: December 2nd + 3rd

Timing: 10 am - 5 pm

Location: Stowel Lake Farm, Salt Spring Island

Investment: $350 early bird rate before November 18, $400 full rate

*Rate includes two days of programming and a three-course traditional Indian lunch each day with chai and dessert.

Acceptance is an often misunderstood concept as it relates to grief and childlessness. Practicing acceptance doesn't mean that you feel good about being childless. It doesn't mean that the losses along the path to living a childless life don't affect you anymore. It doesn't mean that you will never feel sadness. Acceptance isn't an endorsement of your childlessness. It also isn't a static state which you reach.

Acceptance means you are present with what has happened and the reality of your situation. You are willing to face the reality of living a childless life and all that it means. It means you are learning to exist with your grief. You don't have to like it, but you are ready to take your seat in the reality of it. Simply put: Practicing acceptance is learning to be present with what is.

If you are childless not by choice and want to explore the practice of acceptance, I invite you to join me on Saturday, September 16th at 7am pst / 10 am est / 3 pm bst.

Free to attend and / or practice with the replay.

I am thrilled to be leading a webinar during World Childless Week on the practice of acceptance.

Acceptance is necessary to live a childless life. It isn't easy, it takes practice, but it is worth the effort.

In her famous theory of grief, Elisabeth Kubler-Ross outlines five stages of grief: Denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.

While it is helpful to have these 'stages' outlined, it is misleading to suggest that you will move from one to the next and end with a nice conclusion of acceptance at the end of it.

These 'stages' are more like stations you stop at along the journey. The grieving process is not linear; there is no formula. It is a fluid experience, and you will dip in and out of all the stations many times.

Practicing acceptance is learning to be present with what is. It is being mindful of your unconsciously held beliefs, inner narrative, triggers, and glimmers. It is cultivating an ongoing compassionate relationship with grief. It is spending time reimagining yourself and your future.

Like the other stations of grief, acceptance is fluid. Somedays, it will be easier to access than others. With a consistent return to practice, you can inhabit your reality with more and more ease.

I am honoured to support my long-time friend Satya Amrita of Vedic Priestess Temple 108 by leading a Mantra (chanting), Mudra (hand gesture), Pranayama (breathwork), and Asana (posture) practice centred around invoking Gayatri's blessings during the day-long retreat at the beautiful Stowel Lake Farm.

Summer Solstice is the perfect time to chant the Gāyatrī Mantra, one of the most ancient and sacred mantras from the yogic scriptures. It’s a prayer to the Sun, asking that the radiance of the sun illuminate our minds and guide us on the path toward deeper awakening.

ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः
तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं
भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि
धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात् ॥

Om Bhuur-Bhuvah Svah

The perfect accompaniment to Summer Expanding Your Radiance: A Gāyatrī Solstice Retreat

A secondary chakra called Surya (sun) chakra is located at the solar plexus, whose role is to absorb and assimilate Prana (life force) from the sun. Goddess Gāyatrī is connected to this chakra. The seed mantra of this chakra is RAM.
We will focus on cleansing and activating this energy centre during the upcoming "Expanding Your Radiance: A Gāyatrī Solstice Retreat".
