My story from what I remember

Brennon Dulle

About 10 years ago I had a hemorrhagic stroke caused by a AVM. on Halloween night two or three days later I developed epilepsy. epilepsy is horrible I've had a lot of seizures so many I can't even count, they've lasted from 3 minutes to 7 days long. Technically I've had an extra 2 strokes, 4 brain surgeries and a hell of a lot of seizures. I'll get there eventually.

On Halloween 10 years ago I was dressed up at a Baywatch lifeguard horrible to go to the hospital. I wore it for many days but I looked good.. I honestly don't remember much other than losing a little bit of my speech and and a little bit of movement and then going for a ride and my sister's vehicle she is a medical professional. The next thing I remember waking up at RUH hospital for a little bit. I think then I went to City hospital for Rehab. Then I went back to University for brain surgery and then back to City to relearn how long all of it took no idea but it happened on Halloween and I remember getting out after Christmas. I remember a lot of rehab, flowers, trying to read and sleeping a lot or trying. The best thing I remember was reading to my Elizabeth my friend Kyle McLaren's kid. There was so much and It's so long ago.

The next thing big thing happened I was on a pill it made me angry for aboat 6 months it was horrible. I got rid of it luckily enough it wasn't helping. Started another new pill And another new pill. Although the epilepsy got more and more extreme and hardcore I think I was having seizures every couple of days. I don't remember how long this seizure went until it wasn't cool it was a long time my seizures lasted 5 to 30 minutes give or take. I went for another brain surgery and I lost feeling on my right hand side of my body and I've never got it fully back. Once again I had to relearn how to walk talk and pretty much think again. I lost my seizures for a little bit I don't know how long maybe a year or two. But I was on a lot of pills, six seizure drugs. Then it started again I remember having, hardcore seizure. I had a seizure at the family reunion it was intense. stars came and picked me up it was an hour and 45 minutes seizure. Not cool. I've been found on 8th Street having a seizure from my old house. I've stopped cars because at my old house on 8th Street, laid down on the middle of the road or just aim to make it outside so people would notice me. I have a seizure notice of 3 to 5 minutes. I'm having a seizure luckily enough and just try to call 911 go somewhere safe where someone can find me and hope I survive. I remember fighting the government to go to Calgary to get the next brain 2 surgery because it was getting carried away again. I ended up talking to the health minister to go to Calgary for my next two brain surgeries that was a battle to go to Calgary. On the third brain surgery I had a stroke I lost my feeling on right hand arm due to that I had to relearn how to use it. It was a constant battle like continually walked around the hallways and worked on lifting my arm up every time I hit a doorway I would try to lift up my arm. Eventually I won. Then I had my fourth brain surgery I had to get rid of my hippocampus and amygdala they were causing my seizures. There was only 3% of it left so that was not needed anymore. I'm not supposed to remember anything but I do. I remember telling the nurses "I hope I remember this but if I don't un cool". It was hard in Calgary I had just my ex-wife and no family. It wasn't cool coming back to Saskatoon trying to get support at the end of my brain surgery time. There was a lot of stuff to relearn like speaking talking and remembering. Along with moving my right hand. I don't think my memory is great but I still have a memory so that's good. It's not the Perfect Memory but it's something better than nothing . I started a fundraiser. This will be my fourth year doing it. Now my seizures have come back June I believe of last year I had a 7-Day seizure/coma. I survived I'm on a lot of pills still but I'm on a special pill not a lot of people are on it but I'm surviving I will continue to do this fundraiser until the day I die or cease. Until I die it is important to me 6300 the stroke unit. 6300 the stroke unit has helped me and if you need it it will help you.

That's my thought of my story I'm sure there's more but that's what I can remember right now

There are so many people I want to say thank you too but I don't know how or where to start so if you have helped me I really appreciate everything you have done.

I just want to say every time I have one of these giant seizures I have to relearn something new whether it's a speach movement or thinking it's always fun.

I lost my hippocampus and amygdala are both parts of the limbic system. The limbic system is a group of brain structures involved in processing emotions, memory, and behavior. Specifically, the hippocampus is crucial for forming new memories, while the amygdala plays a key role in processing emotions, particularly fear and aggression.

I will go on until the end..

• Hippocampus:
This structure is essential for forming new declarative memories (facts and events) and spatial navigation. It's also involved in the consolidation of memories, transferring them from short-term to long-term storage.

• Amygdala:
The amygdala is primarily responsible for processing emotions, especially fear and aggression. It also plays a role in forming emotional memories and associating them with specific situations. It helps us recognize and respond to threats

💜 Thank You, Brennon Dulle, Gillian Dulle & Supporters! 💜

We are incredibly grateful to Brennon Dulle and Gillian, their families, friends, sponsors, and every generous supporter who made the 3rd annual Dulle's Neurology Fundraiser a remarkable success! This year’s event raised approximately $24,000 in support of the Neurology Unit at Royal University Hospital.

Thanks to Brennon’s unwavering dedication, funds from this year—and nearly $20,000 from previous years—will help bring a neurosurgical stereotactic robot to RUH. This groundbreaking tool will help neurosurgeons more precisely identify and treat the source of epileptic seizures, offering hope for faster recovery and a future with fewer seizures—or even freedom from them.

Over the years, Dulle’s events have made a heartfelt impact—bringing joy and comfort through games, puzzles, art supplies, iPads, and a Netflix membership for patients in the Seizure Investigation Unit. The events have also supported vital research led by Dr. Alexandra Carter, boosted wellness for the Neurology staff with an inviting and refreshed staff room, and funded professional development for the teams who provide exceptional care every day.

Brennon, your commitment inspires us—and your community continues to transform care at RUH. 💜
