We get it- it's cold, it's cloudy, why should I wear sunscreen?!

❄️ The ozone layer is thinner, especially at higher altitudes, causing ultraviolet rays to increase in intensity.

❄️ Snow and ice can reflect up to 90% of UV rays back at you!

❄️ UV rays can also pass through clouds, so it doesn't matter if thr sun is shining or not!

We recommend wearing a sunscreen of at least 30 SPF and re-applying every two hours.

Need help finding your perfect sunscreen? We'd be happy to help! We carry a selection of dermatologist-approved sunscreens for the face and body ☃️

One of the things we get asked the most during winter is, "What's better, a lotion or a cream... and what's the difference, anyway?" 🤷‍♀️ The truth is, they're very similar and what you prefer may depend on your skin's specific needs. There are actually four different textures of moisturizers: gel, lotion, cream, and ointment.

So, what's the difference?

🫶 Gels have a watery consistency and the most lightweight option. They're often clear and absorb very quickly with a refreshing, weightless feel.

🫶 Lotions also have a high water content and are lightweight and non-greasy. They contain more skin-softening ingredients than gels. Ideal for normal-oily skin, or in warmer, more humid months.

🫶 Creams are thicker and provide a barrier to keep skin ultra-hydrated, preventing transepidermal water loss. They may feel greasier because they contain a higher percentage of oil.

🫶 Ointments are the thickest consistency and contain occlusive ingredients - like petroleum jelly - that form a barrier over the skin, rather than being absorbed. Ointments are often used for target-relief of dry, rough patches of skin, like cracked heels or chapped lips.

What brands do we recommend? CeraVe, Cetaphil, Aquaphor, Aveeno- or anything that is non-scented!

We carry many samples of these products, just ask at the front desk if you're in the clinic!

Annual skin exams play a crucial role in maintaining your skin health and overall well-being! With regular skin checks, we can:

🔍 Detect skin cancer early by tracking changes in moles and other skin lesions.
🔍 Prevent skin damage by spotting suspicious areas of skin, which leads to early intervention and prevention.
🔍 Promote healthy skincare practices by educating patients about skincare habits, sun protection, and symptoms of malignant spots.
🔍 Provide peace of mind by giving reassurance and helping with management of any skin concerns.

By following the steps above, your skin exams can be both quick and thorough! If you're in need of a skin check, please consult your family physician or visit a walk-in clinic to obtain a referral.
