Most people know that the liver is responsible for filtering toxins and blood, which makes it an important organ in the detoxification process.

But did you know your liver does more than just filter your blood? It's actually responsible for regulating inflammation and helping your immune system know when to respond and when to stay calm.

When your liver gets overloaded with toxins (from food additives, environmental chemicals, medications, even stress hormones), it can tip your immune system into overdrive or make it too sluggish to respond when you need it.

Studies show that supporting healthy detoxification can help reduce unnecessary inflammation, improve how your immune cells communicate, and keep your body's defence system balanced.

Though there isn't one magic solution, there are many ways to support both systems.

If you need a little more support and vetted information, check out my Kick the Sick and Detox programs—they work together for a reason.

PS. Grab them before December 31 to save!!

About 70% of your immune system lives in your gut. Let that sink in for a minute.

Your digestive tract isn't just about breaking down food—it's home to trillions of bacteria that influence everything from immunity and inflammation to mood and energy levels. Working with patients on gut health for years has shown me that it's still one of the most overlooked areas when it comes to overall wellness.

When your gut bacteria get out of balance (from things like stress, processed foods, antibiotics, or lack of sleep), it affects your entire body. You might notice you're getting sick more often, dealing with digestive issues, feeling more anxious or low, or struggling with skin problems.

The good news? Supporting your gut health doesn't have to be complicated. Simple changes like eating more fiber-rich foods, managing stress, and reducing inflammatory triggers can make a real difference.

This is exactly the kind of foundational work we focus on in naturopathic medicine—addressing root causes instead of just managing symptoms.

If you're dealing with ongoing health issues and think gut health might be playing a role, book a consultation with me at Origin Chiropractic and Wellness.

Or if you're looking for information on supporting your body's natural detoxification systems (which starts with gut health), check out my Detox program.

Living in Canada means dealing with a vitamin D problem that most people don't even realize they have.

From October through March, the sun's angle makes it nearly impossible for our skin to produce adequate vitamin D, even on sunny days. About 70% of Canadians are deficient in vitamin D during winter months, and this affects way more than just bone health.

Vitamin D plays a major role in immune function, inflammation regulation, and even mood. Low levels can leave you more susceptible to infections, feeling fatigued, and struggling with seasonal mood changes. Yet most people don't think about their vitamin D status until they're already dealing with these issues.

Though there isn't one perfect solution for everyone, getting your levels tested and addressing deficiencies now (before winter hits hard) is one of the most proactive things you can do for your health.

If you're looking for support on strengthening your immune system going into winter, check out my Kick the Sick program. Or if you need personalized guidance on testing and supplementation, book an appointment with me at Origin Chiropractic and Wellness.

Wellness isn't about avoiding every germ (that's impossible). It's about building resilience so your body can handle what comes its way.

This is where naturopathic medicine really shines. Instead of just treating symptoms, we look at the root causes—things like nutrient deficiencies, gut health, chronic inflammation, and stress—that weaken your immune system and make you more susceptible to getting sick.

As we head into winter with shorter days, less vitamin D from sunlight, and more time indoors with recycled air, your body needs extra support. But the key is being proactive now, not waiting until you're already down with a cold.

Supporting your immune system before winter hits means you're working with your body's natural intelligence instead of fighting against it when you're already struggling.

If you're looking for vetted & approved information to help build resilience for your family, my Kick the Sick program walks you through exactly what to do.
(Ps. Kick the Sick is on sale until the end of December!)

Or if you need more 1:1 guidance, book an appointment with me.

Bloated after meals. Brain fog by 2pm. Catching every bug your kids bring home.

These aren't things you just have to live with — they're signals from your body.

When your gut is inflamed, hormones are imbalanced, and your immune system is depleted, you need to address the root cause, not just push through.

That's why I created the Immune Booster & Detox Bundle — combining my two most effective programs to help you rebuild from the inside out.

What's included:
✨ The Detox: Gut & Hormone Reset — gentle, food-based protocol to reduce inflammation and rebalance your system
✨ Kick the Sick — evidence-based immune support for your whole family
Both are self-paced and online. Learn on your schedule, implement at your pace.

Labs are one of the quickest ways to find out what’s going on behind the scenes with your body.

And many people don’t know that they can get labs through their ND. One of the main reasons I prefer to do lab requisitions for my patients is that I can ensure they are testing for exactly what I’m looking for as opposed to the standardized lab req.

Yes, patients do pay out of pocket, but it can save months of back and forth between medical professionals to get the information communicated between everyone. And some HSA’s cover these costs.

If you’re looking for an efficient way to get a full picture of your health, book a 1:1 with me and we can chat about running some tests.

Every year around this time, I start hearing the same thing from friends, family, and patients: "I always get sick in the winter."

But here's what I tell them—it doesn't have to be that way. With the right proactive approach, you can support your body to stay resilient through the colder months.

Naturopathic medicine focuses on prevention and root causes. Instead of waiting to treat symptoms, we work on building a strong foundation: optimizing immune function, addressing vitamin and mineral deficiencies, supporting your gut health (where 70% of your immune system lives), and reducing inflammation.

The key is starting now, before the rush of holiday stress, cold weather, and winter illnesses hits. Though there isn't any way to completely avoid getting sick, there are many ways to strengthen your body's natural defenses.

Boost your family’s immune system and get ahead of cold and flu season with Kick the Sick, your self-paced, on-demand program to give you the information you need to strengthen your family’s immune system so you can stop playing nurse to your kids all winter.

Hormones can wreak havoc on how you feel.
But, sometimes we can be too quick to blame them when we ‘feel off’.

I’ve had many discussions with patients lately who assume they have low energy, feel moody, or apathetic because they’ve transitioned into perimenopause. But when we run labs and do some digging, these symptoms are actually from low iron, vitamin D, and/or vitamin B12 - which all play an important role in your hormones.

This is why naturopathic medicine is so important, instead of just looking at the symptom and treating those individually - we look at your health and lifestyle as a whole to get to the root of the issue.

Waiting until you're sick to support your immune system is like waiting until there's snow on the ground to get your winter tires - you’re making it harder than it needs to be!

As we head into colder months, now is the time to be proactive with your health. Naturopathic medicine focuses on prevention and building resilience before your body needs it most. This means supporting your immune system, optimizing your nutrient levels, and addressing any underlying issues now—not when everyone around you is already dealing with colds and flu.

Though there isn't any way to completely avoid getting sick, there are many ways to strengthen your body's defenses. Taking a proactive approach means you're working with your body's natural systems instead of reacting when something's already wrong.

If you're looking for vetted information and support to help your family stay resilient this winter, check out my Kick the Sick program (on sale until November 30). Or if you need more 1:1 support, book an appointment with me at Origin Chiropractic and Wellness.
