When someone comes to see me about fertility, the conversation usually goes beyond reproductive hormones.

The reproductive system responds to what’s happening throughout the body, which means several factors can influence fertility.

Areas we often explore include:
• metabolic health and blood sugar regulation
• stress physiology and nervous system function
• gut health and inflammation
• nutrient status
• ovulation and cycle quality
• partner health

Looking at the broader picture can give us insight into what may be affecting reproductive health.

Whether you’re in the preconception stage or have started trying, book an appointment with me and let me support you through your fertility journey.

One of the guiding principles of naturopathic medicine is that the body has an incredible ability to heal when it’s given the right support.

That’s one of the reasons I incorporate acupuncture into my practice.
Acupuncture works with the body rather than against it. By stimulating specific points on the body, it can influence circulation, the nervous system, and the body’s natural regulatory systems.

In practice, this means it can help support a wide range of concerns that many women experience, including:
• hormonal imbalances
• PMS and irregular cycles
• fertility support
• fatigue and burnout
• metabolic health challenges
• chronic tension or pain

For many busy women who are balancing careers, family, and everything in between, the body can spend long periods under stress.
Acupuncture provides an opportunity for the body to slow down, reset, and begin restoring balance.

It’s one of the reasons it continues to be such a valuable tool in supporting women’s health.

Offering acupuncture to my patients is another way we can work together to optimize their health at any stage of their fertility and pregnancy journey.

Here’s how acupuncture can benefit you:
• Balances Hormones: For both men and women, hormonal balance is important. For women, it can support the endocrine system which is responsible for producing and releasing hormones that affect ovulation, menstruation, and pregnancy. For men, it can increase s***m count and motility.

• Increases Blood Flow: Circulation to the reproductive organs (male and female) can improve the chances of conceiving and successful pregnancy

• Reduces Stress: High levels of stress reduce our body’s ability to function optimally, and has a significant impact on fertility. Acupuncture can reduce stress by stimulating the release of endorphins.

Talk to me about adding acupuncture to your treatment plan if you are an existing patient, or book an Initial Appointment with me so that we can work together.

Many people overlook the men when struggling with fertility. There are many tests and appointments for women but there are hidden factors that could impact male fertility as well.

• Chronic Stress - mental, emotional and physical stress can impact male fertility just as it does females
• Increased Scrotal Temperature - excessive exposure to high temperatures from hot tubs, saunas, or even laptops can damage s***m production and movement
• Cell Phones - carrying cell phones in the front pockets can increase heat and electromagnetic exposure to s***m which can impact s***m motility
• Nutritional Deficiencies - Nutritional deficiencies significantly impact male fertility, causing issues with s***m quality, count, motility, and testosterone production.

Book an appointment with me to discuss and investigate all the options and factors that could be slowing your fertility journey.

Fertility struggles are more common that most people know. And while there are major factors that can impact fertility - there are some sneaky little ones that could be making more of a difference than you think.

• Stress Levels (mental & physical) - chronic mental and emotional stress can impact hormone balance and suppress ovulation; physical stress such as over-exercising can also impact hormone levels and interfere with ovulation
• Diet & Nutrition - poor dietary habits and nutrient deficiencies have also been linked to fertility challenges
• Thyroid Issues - hypo and hyperthyroidism can disrupt the menstrual cycle and ovulation

Whether you are in the pre-conception phase of your journey or have been trying for a while, book with me at Origin Chiropractic and Wellness so that we can investigate some of these hidden factors.

As an ND who focuses on metabolic health, women’s health and fertility, and gut health, I talk about certain topics with my patients more than others.

In 2025, these were the top 3 topics I discussed with patients.
1. Blood sugar balance
2. Importance of blood work to rule out basic deficiencies (ie iron deficiency or low vitamin D)
3. Working on calming the nervous system and supporting the stress response

If any of these topics are top of mind for you on your health journey, be sure to come see me.

Wellness and self-care are topics I discuss a lot with my patients, friends and family. Whether that’s detailed supplement plans or talking about the newest wellness trends, I love to chat about it.

Here is my Wellness Checklist for 2026.
1. Hydrate. You could say I’m a bit obsessed with hydration and water quality (yes I am a water snob). So not only is hydration on my list but hydration with clean, healthy filtered water. Two filtration systems I love are the Larq water bottle filtration and sanitization system (great for on the go), and the Berkey filtration system for at home, I also recommend ditching plastic and making the switch to a glass or stainless steel water bottle.

2. Movement. It’s no secret that I love Pilates but as a mom of 3 boys (and during hockey season), sometimes fitting a class into my schedule doesn’t work. So I make sure I go for a walk or add in some squats or push ups mid fort building! There are lots of great on-demand options you can find on YouTube for yoga, Pilates or mobility workouts as well. Movement doesn’t need to be complicated just do it!

3. Vitamin D. Adding Vitamin D to your wellness regime can make a big difference in your energy levels, and it’s an important vitamin for the absorption of other nutrients. I recommend having vitamin D levels tested so a dose can be individualized.

4. Prioritize Sleep. It can be tempting to scroll or catch up on your shows late at night but that can push your bedtime much too late to get a full 8 hours in before the next day. Focus on creating a sustainable bedtime routine and consistent bedtime - once you get into the habit, you’ll feel a difference!

You don’t need to overhaul your life to start to improve your health and wellness. I’d love to hear what your wellness checklist is!

Most people know that the liver is responsible for filtering toxins and blood, which makes it an important organ in the detoxification process.

But did you know your liver does more than just filter your blood? It's actually responsible for regulating inflammation and helping your immune system know when to respond and when to stay calm.

When your liver gets overloaded with toxins (from food additives, environmental chemicals, medications, even stress hormones), it can tip your immune system into overdrive or make it too sluggish to respond when you need it.

Studies show that supporting healthy detoxification can help reduce unnecessary inflammation, improve how your immune cells communicate, and keep your body's defence system balanced.

Though there isn't one magic solution, there are many ways to support both systems.

If you need a little more support and vetted information, check out my Kick the Sick and Detox programs—they work together for a reason.
