DAEMON OF THE DAY 😈

BERITH 👑

Berith (also Ba'al Berith, Lord of the Covenant) is listed by Weyer as a Duke of Hell in command of twenty-six legions. Collin de Plancy and other demonologists describe his appearance as very human, as a soldier riding a red steed and wearing the crown of his station. However, the idols of the Ba'al Berith of biblical literature has many forms, including flies (which were, perhaps, actually idols to another Ba'al; Beelzebub). Berith is one of the few demons whose weakness is specifically recorded by most demonologists: Most sources agree that in order to command Berith, the summoner must have a certain magical ring.

In addition to the fairly common demonic skills of telling the past, present, and future, Berith is said to have been able to help alchemists turn anything into gold. He was also said to enjoy inciting war and murder. There is, perhaps, some correlation there - for gold is very often the motive behind war, murder, and other dark deeds.

DIVINATION:

Focus on material gain, but beware of greed that can turn to dangerous motivations.

DAEMON OF THE DAY

UKOBACH 🔥

Ukobach is a very tiny daemon with no rank in the Hellish royal hierarchy whatsoever. Instead, Ukobach works in the equivalent of the infernal maintenance industry, and his job is the upkeep of the oil in the boilers that heat the entirety of the underworld. Which -- if we are to believe that He'll is a very warm place -- is a very big job for such a small daemon. Collin de Plancy notes that Ukobach is also occasionally credited with the invention of frying food and fireworks. There are very likely some Asian daemons who would contest that assertion, but it is possible that Ukobach played some part in the development of both of those things, if in nothing but a consulting role.

According to Collin de Plancy, Ukobach's immediate supervisor is Beelzebub or, at the least, the Lord of the Flies has tasked the daemon with his job of maintaining the boilers. As mentioned in my post before, Beelzebub's rank in Hell is quite high -- second to Satan by some accounts -- but it is worth noting that his rank would be far less impressive if he were ruler over a tepid realm. One hopes that Ukobach is given his due credit and appreciation for keeping the infernal fires burning bright. Despite his lack of royal title, Ukobach's efforts reflect on all those of higher rank.

DIVINATION

Beware of taking workers for granted. Nonmanagement workers in retail, construction, service, and other industries may sometimes seem invisible, but those individuals are essential to a smoothly running society. Closer to home, take care to appreciate those individuals working under your leadership.

DAEMON OF THE DAY

AMON

Amon may sound familiar to anyone who has studied the deities of the ancient Egyptians, although the name is more often spelled Amun or Amun-Ra. In 2000 BCE Thebes, Amun became the local patron god -- a small step up from his very earliest incarnation as the embodiment of the element of air.

Amon, a Marquis of Hell who rules over forty legions of demons according to Weyer's Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, seems to have precisely nothing in common with that Egyptian deity. He is described as more beast than man -- a creature that is part wolf, part serpent, and with the head of a raven or an owl. None of those animals were associated with Amun-Ra, and while Amun was a god of the wind, Amon the demon breathes fire. Amun-Ra was nearly all powerful, while the demon Amon's main gift seems to be the ability to reconcile friends who have fought and separated. And yet, early demonologists all assert that Amon the demon and Amun-Ra the deity are the same being.

If Amun-Ra and Amon are, indeed, the same being, perhaps that is the reason why Amon's gift is the ability to mend fractured relationships. After all, the excuse for a severed friendship is very often "we're different people now." It is possible Amon knows better than most that it is possible to change so much as to be virtually unrecognizable and yet still be the same person underneath.

Flavros (also Flauros) is the Duke of Hell who is a general in command of twenty or thirty-six military units, according to Weyer's Pseudomonarchia Daemonum. He can also transform into the shape of a man, but his eyes will retain the fires of his infernal origin.

Flavros is said to be a liar who will beguile those who conjure him and try to coerce them under his command. He can, however, be bound within a magical triangle, in which he will only tell the truth. This may be a test as far as Flavros is concerned. Once he is properly bound within the requisite triangle, he is very glad to be of help and more than willing to converse about Heaven and He'll and about military campaigns during the Great War in Heaven that led to Satan and his followers being cast out. It is as if he lies to those he dies not believe worthy or prepared for his presence; but once satisfied, he will give his full assistance and attention to them.

DIVINATION

Focus on unlikely allies; people that we may distrust can be honest in certain situations.
