What books do I recommend to birth clients...well, I guess it's these ones I continue to buy multiples of 😅🙌🏼

💕The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth- by Hensci Goes is a MUST.

💕The Birth Partner- by Penny Simkin is amazing.

💕Ina Mays Guide to Child Birth- by Ina May Gaskin so a beautiful book also :)

I recommend these as the basics because they are easy reads and PACKED with information that every woman and partner should know!

Then depending on how Mom envisions her birth or how deep she wants to dive, there are way more I recommend including books for nutrition and of course, postpartum!!

In fact, according to research, reducing salt in your body for more than two weeks, will cause your blood volume to drop...which is exactly what we don't want during pregnancy!

Buy a good quality salt, and eat as much as you want. Your tongue and senses will guide you, but don't be shy!

Being told you have low iron during pregnancy can be very worrisome, especially if there's a threat of being pushed out of midwifery care.

Now, I'm not saying DON'T listen to your provider if they're recommending an iron supplement.
I AM saying, don't panic.

Your blood volume goes up around %40 when you're pregnant, which causes something called hemodilution. It's when your hemoglobin is low BECAUSE your plasma levels are high. Plasma is mostly water, so it's an easier building block for your body to create. Hemoglobin (which includes iron) will follow and you should expect to see that blood balancing out further into your third trimester. Make sure you are getting enough iron-rich foods and eating a well-rounded diet!
