Dear STR8 UP Members, and all who believe, support, and celebrate their transformational journeys.
Transformation of one’s relationship with self, others, all of creation and with one’s personal Sacred Mystery is not the responsibility of a few. It is a task required of all humanity and creation.
It is about restoration, healing, wellness, and balance.
STR8 UP has struggled to discover what is inherent in everything and everyone to support and foster this kind of transformation.
What we have found, is that it is a Spiritual journey, not only for recovering and addicted gangsters, but one that is necessary and possible for everyone and anyone.
All other essential and required resources will ultimately collapse if the Spiritual transformation is abandoned. No amount of power, control, codependency, or enablement will promise or assure its success. We presently live on a planet, a world, a culture that is pleading for healing and transformation.
STR8 UP has never viewed the past lives and journeys of the members as dreadful and meaningless, or their future as horrid and predetermined.
STR8 UP sees the journey of life as an ongoing process of hope, unity, and gratitude. The future of the members of STR8 UP as well as the organization of STR8 UP is one of development, maturity, and continual new birth.
This future is discovered in the Spiritual realities of Honesty and Humility, leading to the service of the Common Good. These values need to be discovered and nurtured throughout one’s life.
Numerous members have declared that coming to STR8 UP is like coming home. It is a space where imperfection is recognized and accepted, a space where forgiveness abounds. Where we can be at home with self and others.
We feel at home because of our limitations, aware that this includes belonging and fitting in. This new home, imperfect as it may be, discovers and defines who we are and the person we wish to become.
The secret is in the telling and listening to everyone’s story.
STR8 UP’s sensational journey of over 20 years has met with numerous unknown and untold insights, recoveries, discoveries, and transitions. It has also met with many slips, relapses, deaths, and failures. These are inevitable. Yet there remains, for many addicted male and female gangsters, the never- ending hope of new possibilities which will lead to freedom for love, for life, for self and others.
