Students are encouraged to sweat, enjoy and challenge themselves, as well as begin to explore their inner life on the mat, which inevitably echoes into life off the mat. Ground Yoga offers a diversity in yoga classes, as well as a wide range of teachers and teaching styles. Whether you are new to yoga or have an already established yoga practice you will find Ground Yoga to meet you where you are at, and to encourage and support you to move beyond. This afternoon workshop is for all levels from brand new to experienced students!

Backbends can be very invigorating and energizing postures! They hold so much potential in helping to support feeling good in our body yet can be greatly misunderstood. In this workshop we will go over a vast variety of backbends and how many different bodies and experience levels can execute them, from more restorative postures to active and challenging.

We will focus on:
-Breaking down the mechanics of backward bending postures
-How to effectivley utilize them in your practice
-Work through common challenges
-Understand how to prepare for and safley execute them
-Discuss why they are important
-Most of all we have fun exploring various set ups, variations, and postures to help grow your back bending practice!

It’s important to remember to look at the whole picture of yoga rather than only small pieces of it.

To remember where yoga comes from, and the many aspects of it helps to give this practice the respect that it is due, deepens and expands our own knowledge of it, and ties us back to the long lineage of students that have come before us.

Happy studio anniversary Branden! 5 years ago today, Branden was given the amazing opportunity to take over leadership at Ground Yoga and it seems like that time has flown by. We are so grateful to Vincent and Heather for being pillars of our community for so many years, creating this space, and then placing their trust in Branden to continue to build and grow that creation.

Branden, you have a light that shines brightly wherever you go and it is impossible to be around you without seeing how much you value being of service to others. Whether it is happily stepping in to teach a last minute class, taking the extra moments in conversations coming and going to make people feel seen and significant, or putting days of work into community events because you love to see the people who you care for gathering and celebrating. Your efforts big and small do not go unnoticed, thank you for the love and attention that you put into everything you do. Your leadership is not just about guiding our studio, all your efforts add up over time to improve the lives around you.

🌿All proceeds will be donated to doctors without border to support starving children and their families in Gaza!

🌿WHAT IS FIGHT CLUB?🌿
It is a mixed martial arts cardio class with strength work, a blend of difference music genres and the opportunity to get strong and fit whilst learning real martial arts technique.It blends upper and lower body strength and works your core very well. It improves your balance, reaction times and reflexes, coordination and proprioception as well as helping to improve heart and brain function. I’ve been teaching this class for twenty years as I adore martial arts and have a background in Muay Thai as well as boxing, Kung fu and Capoeira. These are disciplines often combined with Yoga as they tap into every aspect of holistic strength and balance internally.
 
🌿THE CAUSE?🌿
Doctors without borders is my(Alexa) favourite charity to donate to as they are a very effective and worldwide. They hone in on places where civilians are unable to get the aid they need in war zones. They are very trusted and very effective.
 
🌿Together we can make a small difference and support innocent people who are suffering in unimaginable conditions.

Join Kristy for this afternoon workshop deep diving into all things Sun Salutations to refine your practice!

Sun Salutations are a vigorous pattern typically taken towards the beginning of class to warm and prepare the body for practice . They are first and foremost a breathing exercise designed to focus our attention.

They can be an excellent way to get out of your head and get into your body, breath, and therefore, the present moment.

These patterns do however many postures that can be challenging to grasp especially when moving quickly.

This workshop will break down classical sun salutations as well as Surya Namaskar A and B. We will focus on the postures within each of these sequences such as, upward dog, downward dog, chatarunga, and ashtanga namaskara and how to move between them!

Knowing how to execute these patterns and postures with proper and effective technique can make a world of difference within your practice and help to make it both more sustainable and meditative!

We will also cover how to adapt and modify the timing and the postures of the sequence to make it accessible to all practitioners!
