💡 Mommy Thumb: Why New Moms Get Wrist Pain — and How to Fix It

Becoming a new mom is exciting, exhausting, and full of constant movement. 🤱
If you’ve noticed pain on the thumb side of your wrist or forearm, you might be dealing with “Mommy Thumb” — also known as De Quervain’s tenosynovitis.

This condition happens when the tendons that move your thumb become irritated from repetitive lifting, gripping, or holding your baby.
It’s especially common in new moms due to:
👶 Repetitive lifting with bent wrists
🤰 Postpartum hormonal changes
💧 Fluid retention that adds pressure on the tendons

✨ What can help?
✅ Rest and gentle activity modification
✅ Ice therapy to reduce swelling
✅ Supportive wrist/thumb splints
✅ Physiotherapy for hands-on treatment, education, and custom exercises

If your pain isn’t improving, physiotherapy can help restore movement and strength — so you can get back to lifting, feeding, and cuddling your baby without pain. 💕

📍 Saskatchewan moms — we’re here for you.

Kregg felt awful & gross this weekend while teaching in Winnipeg. 🤢

As he lost a bet he had to wear a Bomber jersey while teaching the course. If he would have won the bet he would have worn his beloved Rider jersey. 🏈

BIG SHOUT OUT to for being awesome hosts!

💙 Move for Your Blood Sugar: Management for Diabetes and Pre-Diabetes !

Exercise isn’t just for fitness -it’s a powerful way to regulate blood sugar, improve insulin sensitivity, and reduce the risk of Type 2 diabetes.

Key tips:
🏃‍♀️ Aerobic activity – walking, cycling, swimming
💪 Strength training – weights, resistance bands, bodyweight
🧘 Flexibility & balance – yoga, stretching, tai chi

Even small daily habits- like taking the stairs or a short walk after meals add up!

A physiotherapist or kinesiologist can help you create a safe, personalized plan to stay active and healthy.

🌼 Helping Babies with Torticollis – How Physiotherapy Can Help

Torticollis in infants is when the neck is tight on one side, causing the baby’s head to tilt to one side and turn to the other. Early treatment can make a world of difference-especially in the first few months of life.

👶 Physiotherapy with a therapist who has specialized training in this can help by:

-Assessing your baby’s movement and checking for related concerns (like flat spots on the head).

-Gently stretching tight muscles and guiding safe, comfortable positioning.

-Encouraging movement toward the affected side through tummy time, play, and everyday activities.

-Educating parents on easy, at-home techniques to support recovery.

-Monitoring progress and adapting the plan as your baby grows.

💡 With early, gentle therapy, most babies show quick improvement—often within weeks. If your newborn or infant has a head tilt or always looks to one side, physiotherapy can help restore comfort, movement, and symmetry.

📅 The sooner treatment begins, the faster the results. Book an assessment today at North 49 and give your little one the best start possible.
