The mission of Black Mental Health Canada is to improve the mental health and well-being of Black individuals and communities in Canada by advocating for culturally competent mental health services and promoting community education and empowerment.

This is accomplished through a range of activities, such as:

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the support provided to a person who may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis. 🧠

Participants in this 2-day course will learn how to recognize signs that a person may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis and encourage that person to:

💡Talk about declines in their mental well-being
💡Discuss professional and other supports that could help with recovery to improved mental well-being
💡Reach out to these supports
💡Assist in a mental health or substance use crisis
💡Use MHFA actions to maintain one’s own mental well-being

- Systemic and environmental factors leading to escalated emotions in others.

🌱The Cycle of Escalation
- Understanding how someone becomes “triggered.”
- Understanding and recognizing each stage and appropriate interventions for each.

🌱Emotional Regulation Strategies
- How do we handle anger and anxiety.
- Strategies for regulating our emotions in response to others.

🌱De-Escalation Approaches
- Practical strategies to de-escalate others and create emotional safety.
- How to stay calm and respond effectively in high-stress situations.
