Say hello to our VIP for the month of September, Clara V.! 👋

Clara has been a cherished part of our Elmwood family since 2011 and proudly calls 2901 her home. Known for her friendly (and often feisty!) personality, she is truly one of a kind. 💖

She shares a special bond with the house cat, Mittens, who often chooses her room to curl up in at night. Clara makes sure Mittens is always pampered with food, water, and plenty of love. 🐱

Independent and hardworking, Clara never misses a day at Cosmo and is always ready to pitch in around the house. ✨

Want to make Clara smile? Tim Horton’s coffee and a donut will do the trick! She loves sharing treats and talking with friends, especially about her fond memories of growing up on the farm. Clara is a farm girl at heart, and those roots run deep. ☕🍩

Last week, our Resident Supports team traveled to Regina to attend the Shaping Inclusive Communities Conference, hosted by SaskAbilities in celebration of their 75th Anniversary! 🎉

The event featured keynote speakers Temple Grandin and Madison Tevlin, and offered a variety of insightful panels focused on topics like housing and financial supports and empowering inclusive communities. It was an incredible opportunity for learning, connection, and growth! ✨

While in the area, the team also visited several organizations in Moose Jaw and Regina, including the Edie Montgrand Rehab Center, Moose Jaw Families for Change Inc / Kinsmen Cafe, Chip and Dale Homes Inc. and the Cosmopolitan Learning Centre. 💖

We’re always grateful for the chance to connect with other agencies, exchange ideas, and learn more about their impactful programming and service delivery. 🫶

All in all, it was a busy and rewarding trip! 🛣

It’s Start With Hello Week at SARC Saskatchewan, and we’re celebrating inclusion in our community! 🎉

We’re deeply grateful for the local businesses who go the extra mile to make everyone feel welcome - like our friends at Hunters Bowling Centres Eastview Bowl! Elmwood residents are proud regulars at the lanes, whether through Special Olympics Saskatoon bowling or our own Wheelchair Bowling program. 🎳

That’s why we were so excited when Hunter’s renovated their Eastview location last year to be fully accessible. By removing steps and lips, adding accessible seating, and introducing movable tables, they’ve created a space where everyone can bowl with confidence and independence, boosting inclusion in the community! ✨

While these renovations are a huge step forward (and we’re so appreciative!), community inclusion happens in many ways, on many scales, big or small! 💖

Another month, another goal reached! ✨

This time, we’re celebrating Melissa, who fulfilled her dream of visiting the Butterfly House at the Forestry Farm back in June. 🦋

Melissa absolutely loves butterflies, so she had an amazing time watching them flutter around the vibrant flowers. One even landed on her, and judging by that smile, it was a moment she’ll never forget! 💖

Our Community Inclusion Program (CIP) will be selling orange shirts again this year in support of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day coming up on September 30th! 🧡

All shirts are handmade by residents in CIP’s Entrepreneur Group, and 100% of profits will be donated to Reconciliation Saskatoon, supporting their mission to engage more people in the journey to Truth and Reconciliation! ✨

You can order your shirt today by contacting our CIP team through email at CIP@elmwoodyxe.ca or by text at 306-371-8197. Toddler and youth shirts are $20 each and adult shirts are $25! Orders close on September 26th. 👕

Summer at Elmwood wouldn’t be the same without the magic of the Saskatoon EX and Saskatoon Folkfest! ☀

The Saskatoon Exhibition is always a highlight! From thrilling games and tasty fair treats to jamming to the music at the Grandstand, residents embraced every moment. It’s one of the most exciting (and busiest!) weeks for our Community Inclusion and Recreation teams - and the smiles say it all. 🎡🎪

Folkfest was also a hit, as always! Residents explored the pavilions, savored global cuisines, and celebrated the rich cultural diversity that makes Saskatoon shine! 🌍🎉

As we look ahead to fall, we’re filled with gratitude for the incredible organizations that make our summer programming possible: the City of Saskatoon - Your Local Government – Sask Lotteries Community Grant Program, the Saskatoon Community Foundation Quality of Life Grant and the Riverside Vipond Golf Classic! ✨

From the Elmwood Family Luau to the Slip 'n' Slide to days at the Ex and Folkfest, your support creates unforgettable memories and fosters meaningful inclusion for individuals with intellectual disabilities. We’re thrilled to welcome two new members to our Board of Directors! 🎉

✨ Megan Weir brings valuable experience in Human Resources, with previous roles at STARS and the Saskatchewan Health Authority. She currently serves as a Workforce Attraction & Planning Advisor at Affinity Credit Union, with expertise in workforce development and employee relations.

✨ Craig Kuse joins us with a wealth of experience, including degrees in Commerce and Law from the U of S and a long career as a Managing Partner for ICR Commercial Real Estate (Property Management) prior to his retirement in November 2024. He brings expertise in operations, business development and long-term strategic planning.
