What is Medicinal Movement?
Medicinal movement focuses on how to enjoy moving your body in a safe and effective way so that you experience both an improvement in the function of your body and an increased quality of life. To this end, it’s important to understand that we each house a unique skeleton — no two skeletons are alike. Ignoring your unique skeleton is dangerous and frustrating. Accepting and embracing your unique skeleton allows you to build a safe movement practice and acknowledge your capabilities.
Presenter:
Dr. Tyler Maltman, MD, CCFP, is a board-certified integrative medicine physician. He completed his medical training at the University of Saskatchewan and then travelled around the world studying integrative techniques including yoga teacher training.
His goal is to provide the best possible healing-oriented care with a focus on innovations in both medicinal movement and chronic pain management.
Tyler works as a family physician in Saskatoon and is an assistant professor in the College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan.
He has personally benefitted from taking an integrative medicine approach for his own health issues, including chronic pain in his injured shoulder. After being treated by an integrative team, he learned how to live an active and fulfilling life by managing his pain using healthy methods. It is this experience that inspires his current practices.
Dr. Maltman recently published a book titled, Skelability, to help people embrace their unique skeleton so they can move in the most safe and effective way possible to maximize their quality of life. Dr. Maltman will be providing a workshop on Skelability on Saturday January 24th from 2-5pm at the Alt Hotel in Saskatoon – to register for the workshop please call 306-933-0755
