🌿 Three Years of Community, Movement & Heart on Broadway 🌿

Three years ago, I received a message from someone, a simple invitation that blossomed into something truly special.

That invitation led to the beautiful Yoga community we now share at The Senior Cosmopolitan Centre on Broadway, and what began as a small group has grown into 35–42 incredible souls each class. 💛

Every Monday, we gather for a gentle flow (with many practicing in the chair), and every Wednesday, we enjoy a dedicated chair yoga class - with options to move between chair and floor as feels right 🌸

These classes are filled with laughter, breath, grounding, gentle movement, and the joy of coming together. They are a reminder that yoga is truly for everybody and every body.

✨ And the best part? On Wednesdays you can stay after class for FREE tea, coffee, and snacks - a beautiful way to linger, chat, and build genuine community.

To help make yoga accessible for all, these classes are:

Every season asks something new of us.
This one is asking me to grow.

After years of refining how I teach, guide, and support healing through alignment, therapy, and presence, I can feel my work shifting.
It’s deeper now. More precise. More rooted in everything I’ve learned about the spine, the body as a whole, the nervous system, and the human heart.

So, I’m letting that evolution shape the way I serve.
I’m refining my offerings, adjusting my prices, and creating space for the kind of sessions and classes that bring lasting change, not just momentary relief.

It’s not about doing more. It’s about doing what matters, sustainably, and with integrity.

Healing doesn’t happen in the highlight reels, it happens quietly.

🌹In Loving Memory of Kathleen Brannen

March 30, 1965 – October 18, 2025

It is with deep sadness and love that we share the passing of our dear friend, yoga teacher, and soul sister- Kathleen Brannen.

Kathleen was a radiant light within our Inner Peace Yoga community for over 15 years. She shared her wisdom, warmth, and laughter with everyone who had the joy of crossing her path. A gifted teacher, healer, musician, mother, wife, and friend, Kathleen touched countless hearts through her compassion, humour, and her incredible voice that could lift the entire room.

We played music together, laughed, cried, and practiced yoga side by side. Kathleen’s spirit was kind, strong, and full of grace, even through her illness, she faced every day with courage and love. She was truly too young to leave this world, but her presence will forever remain in the heart of Inner Peace Yoga and in everyone who knew her.

🌬️ How Your Clothing (and Breath) Affect Your Core + Pelvic Floor

A friend told me recently about her “brown pants.”
She said they weren’t overly tight- just a bit snug through the waist. But after wearing them for a few hours, she started feeling pain in her ribs, pressure in her stomach, and discomfort through her torso.

What’s happening here isn’t just about fashion, it’s about function.

When clothing restricts your natural breathing space, your diaphragm can’t move freely.
Instead of expanding down and out (like a full balloon), your body has to find another way to make room for the breath.

I often use this image in class:
🫧 Imagine a balloon filled with air- now press your hands around the middle. You’ll see the air bulge at the top and bottom. That’s what happens in your body when your breath (and torso) are squeezed.

With gravity, that “top bulge” drops downward, putting pressure on your pelvic floor, digestive organs, and even your lower back.
The result?
😣 Shallow breathing
💥 Rib or torso pain
💧 Pelvic floor dysfunction
💫 Increased stress + fatigue

Your diaphragm, core, and pelvic floor work together like a team and when one is restricted, the others have to compensate.

The sky is dark tonight, the moon has disappeared, making space for something new to grow.
Each New Moon is an energetic reset.
A pause.
A chance to breathe before the next chapter begins.

You might feel it in your body, a subtle pull inward, a need to rest, reflect, or release.

Our Story

Why the Turtle?

The turtle's whole life is one of steadfastness, effort, and patience. It lives a slow and steady life of "non-doing". We believe this also the life of the yogi. The Yoga teachings say that we must cultivate a long, steady practice to have the maximum result (sah tu dirgha kala nairantaira satkara asevitah dridha bhumih Sutra 1:14). Because of its seemingly wide-eyed, long-lived, carefree attitude the turtle is often thought to be the wisest of souls among the animal kingdom. At Inner Peace, we learn from the turtle and move at our own pace as the turtle does. The turtle takes its wisdom one day at a time - not reacting, simply accepting and moving on in its natural methods.

In many Native American folk legends, the turtle represents the earth mother and she is honored for saving mankind from the Great Flood. She is the immortal mother who stoically, silently carries the heavy burden of man upon her thick back. Many species have thirteen sections to their underbelly some sources say this represents each of the thirteen moons, and moons are a celestial symbol motherhood. Among Far Eastern cultures it was believed that the turtle's back symbolized Heaven and that its underside represented Earth. For them the turtle signified the possibility of uniting Heaven and Earth within one's own life.

There is a saying, "Home is where the heart is" - the turtle is always at home within itself.
