Waking up and your shoulder just… won’t move?

It often starts like this:

You reach overhead… and something catches. You try to hook your bra… and it hurts. Sleeping on that side? Impossible.

Then slowly…
Your shoulder stops moving the way it used to.

This is what many people experience in their 40s and 50s, what’s often labeled as frozen shoulder.

But here’s what I want you to know:

💬 Your body isn’t breaking
💬 It’s adapting
💬 It’s protecting

And pushing through the pain… or completely avoiding movement…
usually keeps the cycle going.

In my work, we don’t force the shoulder.

We listen to the body
We create safety in the nervous system. We release the deeper patterns that are holding you there.

And from there… movement begins to return. Gently. Gradually. Sustainably.

This might look simple… but it changes everything.

This is psoas traction.

One of the deepest and most overlooked muscles in the body,
connected to your:
• lower back
• hips
• diaphragm
• nervous system

When it’s tight or holding tension, you might feel:
– low back pain
– hip discomfort
– anxiety or constant “holding”
– that feeling like you can’t fully relax

👉 And stretching alone doesn’t touch it.

This kind of supported traction allows the body to:
✔ release without forcing
✔ feel safe enough to let go
✔ reset deep patterns of tension

Tension in your neck that just won’t go away?

It might not be where you think it is.

A muscle I check in almost every session is the
👉 sternocleidomastoid (SCM)

That long muscle that runs from behind your ear down to your collarbone.

When it’s holding tension, it can show up as:
• neck tightness or pain
• headaches (especially around the temples or eyes)
• jaw tension or clenching
• dizziness or a sense of pressure
• forward head posture
• that constant urge to stretch your neck

And most people try to:
❌ stretch it aggressively
❌ roll it out
❌ ignore it

But the SCM is often tight because it’s overworking, helping you breathe, stabilize, and compensate for deeper imbalances.

So instead of just forcing it to release…we need to understand why it’s working so hard

In my sessions, we look at:
✨ breath patterns
✨ posture + head position
✨ ribcage + diaphragm
✨ nervous system tension
✨ how the whole body is supporting (or not supporting) the neck

Because your neck isn’t the problem…it’s the messenger.

At Inner Peace Yoga, I offer private 1:1 sessions that look at the whole body and the whole person.

My private sessions can include:

Why are my private therapy sessions different from most treatments people have tried before?

Because we don’t just treat the symptom.

The body works as a connected chain of systems.

Your feet affect your knees.
Your knees affect your hips.
Your hips affect the pelvic floor.
The pelvic floor affects the spine.
The spine affects the neck.

So when someone comes in with things like:

• back pain
• tight hips
• pelvic floor issues
• neck tension
• plantar fasciitis
• chronic stiffness

We look at the whole body, not just the painful spot.

Your first session is 1.5 hours and includes a full assessment from feet to head, looking at alignment, movement patterns, breath, nervous system regulation, and how everything in the body is working together.

Many people are surprised by how much we discover in that first session.

✨ So many new faces here lately, I thought it was a good time to introduce myself.

Hi, I’m Joelle, owner of Inner Peace Yoga. My passion is helping people reconnect with their bodies and start feeling better again, especially when other approaches haven’t fully solved the problem.

Many of the people who come to see me are dealing with things like:

• back pain
• tight hips/ hip pain
• neck and shoulder tension
• pelvic floor dysfunction
• nervous system dysregulation
• chronic tension or stress in the body

My private therapy sessions combine several approaches including:

• Critical Alignment Therapy
• somatic bodywork
• postural and movement retraining
• ball and strap therapy
• traction and massage
• pelvic floor work
• EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) for the nervous system

Sessions are 1.5 hours long and booked in a package of four, beginning with a full-body assessment from the feet all the way up to the head so we can understand how everything in the body is connected.

This 6-week restorative program is designed for those who feel tired, wired, overstimulated, or stretched thin.

Using bolsters, blankets, breathwork, and gentle nervous system regulation techniques, Elisa will guide you into states of deep repair, where the body can unwind and the mind can settle.

Your Foundation Starts at Your Feet

When someone comes for a private therapy session with me at Inner Peace Yoga, we don’t start at the neck… or the back…

We start at the feet.

Your feet are the foundation of your entire body.

Every step you take sends force through the chain above:

Feet → Ankles → Knees → Hips → Pelvis → Low Back → Spine → Neck

When the feet are misaligned, the rest of the body often has to compensate. This can contribute to issues like knee pain, tight hips, low back discomfort, pelvic floor dysfunction, and neck tension.

The Foot Is Designed As A Tripod

A healthy foot functions like a tripod, distributing weight through three points:

• Base of the big toe
• Base of the little toe
• The center of the heel

When these points work together, the arches can support the body properly and the rest of the skeletal chain can stack above it.

But years of shoes, injuries, and movement habits can shift the toes and metatarsals out of their natural position.

Conditions We Can Work With

Through alignment work, Critical Alignment Therapy, and foot training, we can work with things like:

• Bunions
• Hammer toes
• Fallen or collapsed arches
• Plantar fasciitis
• Morton’s neuroma
• Metatarsal pain
• Foot bursitis
• Toe misalignment
• Ankle instability

The encouraging part?

Feet can change.

It’s never too late to improve toe positioning, restore space in the metatarsals, rebuild the arches, and improve how the entire body aligns above the feet.

And when the feet change…
often the knees, hips, pelvic floor, and spine begin to change too.

Because the body works as one connected system.

Our Story

Why the Turtle?

The turtle's whole life is one of steadfastness, effort, and patience. It lives a slow and steady life of "non-doing". We believe this also the life of the yogi. The Yoga teachings say that we must cultivate a long, steady practice to have the maximum result (sah tu dirgha kala nairantaira satkara asevitah dridha bhumih Sutra 1:14). Because of its seemingly wide-eyed, long-lived, carefree attitude the turtle is often thought to be the wisest of souls among the animal kingdom. At Inner Peace, we learn from the turtle and move at our own pace as the turtle does. The turtle takes its wisdom one day at a time - not reacting, simply accepting and moving on in its natural methods.

In many Native American folk legends, the turtle represents the earth mother and she is honored for saving mankind from the Great Flood. She is the immortal mother who stoically, silently carries the heavy burden of man upon her thick back. Many species have thirteen sections to their underbelly some sources say this represents each of the thirteen moons, and moons are a celestial symbol motherhood. Among Far Eastern cultures it was believed that the turtle's back symbolized Heaven and that its underside represented Earth. For them the turtle signified the possibility of uniting Heaven and Earth within one's own life.

There is a saying, "Home is where the heart is" - the turtle is always at home within itself.
