Prof. Liran Levin - Periodontology and Implant Dentistry

Prof. Liran Levin is the Head of Periodontology Division at the University of Alberta School of Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

Liran Levin is a Professor of Periodontology and the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies at the College of Dentistry, the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. Liran Levin was previously the Head of Research at the School of Dentistry, Rambam Health Care Campus, he is an Associate Professor of periodontology at Titu Maiorescu University and a visiting professor at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Boston, MA. Liran Levin received his DMD degree with distinction at the Goldschleger School of Dental Medicine, Tel Aviv University and completed his Post Graduate Periodontology Program at the Department of Periodontology, School of Graduate Dentistry, Rambam Health Care Campus. He also received his Periodontology Specialist Certificate from the European Federation of Periodontology. Liran Levin has published more than 230 articles and book chapters in the international professional literature and is involved in research mainly in periodontology, dental implants and dental trauma. He has been lecturing extensively both nationally and internationally in the fields of dental implants and periodontal diseases. Levin serves as a Scientific Associate Editor of the Quintessence International, an Associate Editor of the International Dental Journal and as an Editorial Board Member and a manuscript reviewer for some of the leading international professional Journals in the fields of periodontology, dental implants, dental trauma and general dentistry. Levin was appointed as The Chairman of the Ethics in Dental Research Committee of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR). He is an active member of the International Association for Dental Research, American Dental Education Association, International Association for Dental Traumatology, Israeli Dental Association, Israeli Periodontal and Osseointegration Society and the European Federation of Periodontology.

Dr. Liran Levin's research studying head and neck injuries resulting from domestic violence has been approved to start research in the HRDP-SK! Dr. Levin and collaborators will use historical healthcare records in Saskatchewan to understand how often head and neck injuries result from domestic violence.

The researchers hope to improve how medical professionals identify these injuries, to support better care with quicker intervention and fewer complications for patients. This is also the first phase of an overarching study that aims to create clear guidelines to help dental professionals identify, document, approach, and respond to domestic violence.

It is a great pleasure to share that for the first time, since the inception of the journal in 1985, Dental Traumatology has been ranked now in the top quartile (Q1) of the “DENTISTRY, ORAL SURGERY & MEDICINE” category (33/162). The impact factor has increased to 3.1 (2024) from 2.3 (2023).
