Our friends from Sunnyside Adventist Care Centre spent the afternoon with Sherbrooke managers discussing a recent trip to the Netherlands!

The Sunnyside team visited four different long-term care home throughout the country and were introduced to different philosophies of care when it comes to caring for residents dementia including a model called Green Care Farms.

It was an excellent presentation and a wonderful opportunity for our managers to learn about different models of care. Thank you for sharing your experiences and insights with us, Sunnyside!

It has been a busy few weeks for Community Day Program participants and staff!

They ventured to the Saskatchewan Aviation Museum for a fundraising barbecue and had a great time enjoying all the museum has to off.

Then last week, participants and staff travelled to Manitou Springs Resort and Mineral Spa for a day of relaxation and fun!

A big thank you to everyone who has helped make these excursions happen 😀

We hosted our 4th annual event to honour Truth and Reconciliation in our community today. It was a day full of history, stories, thoughtful questions and careful listening centered on Indigenous culture, traditions, and the legacy of Residential Schools.

The day started in the Tawaw Centre with Elaine Sutherland and Honey Constant-Inglis presenting to residents, staff, families, students and volunteers. They brought a wealth of knowledge and insight to our community and presented hard truths with compassion and clarity. We are grateful to Elaine and Honey for spending their morning with us.

In the afternoon, Jordan Lee, his Kookum, Mary Lee, along with two other family members raised a new teepee on our grounds. Our old teepee poles needed replacing, along with the teepee canvas, so it was wonderful to see a new teepee raised before a very captive Sherbrooke audience. We invite you to visit our new teepee the next time you are here.

We want to thank the iGen class, along with Sherbrooke resident, Marc Cheriyan, for creating an art piece that sparked joy and meaning throughout the day. It was an interactive medicine wheel that explained the four sections that make up the medicine wheel and gave people the opportunity to contribute to adding a piece of coloured paper to the wheel.

We also want to thank our Food Services team for preparing an Indigenous themed lunch which included Three Sisters Soup and fresh bannock!

Today was an opportunity to recommit our Sherbrooke community to the goals of Truth and Reconciliation, and we are excited to bring more opportunities in the coming months where residents can learn about and connect with Indigenous culture and traditions.

Thank you to everyone who helped make today so very special.

Come join us for our 4th Annual Truth and Reconciliation event at Sherbrooke on Thursday, September 18th.

At 10:30am, Saskatoon entrepreneur and archaeologist Honey Constant-Inglis (pictured below) and Elaine Sutherland from the Office of the Treaty Commissioner will be speaking in the Tawaw Centre sharing their knowledge of Indigenous culture, history and residential schools, and answering any questions residents, staff, students and families might have. Everyone is encouraged to attend Honey and Elaine's presentations.

Our Food Services team will be preparing an Indigenous themed lunch with Baked Bannock and Three Sisters Soup, along with Saskatoon Berry Crumble Tart and Vanilla Ice Cream.

In the afternoon starting at 1:30pm, we will raise a new teepee in front of our building and learn about the significance the teepee plays within Indigenous culture.

We encourage all residents and staff to wear Orange T-shirts on Thursday as a way to raise awareness about residential schools. There will be a limited selection of orange shirts available for free on the 18th by Tumbleweed Gift and Thrift.

We hope to see you on September 18th!

It was a very special day in our Sherbrooke community!

We were thrilled to announce a 1-day community impact project to rejuvenate the green space between Veterans Village and Kinsmen Village. Our goal was to create an inclusive space for Elders to enjoy daily visits, social gatherings and entertainment. As you can see by the photos, we had a large group of Sherbrooke staff who volunteered to help make this goal happen.

This project would not have been possible without the generosity and kindness of the American Rental Association and the Toro Company Foundation, as well as their local members. The ARA Foundation does community impact projects across Canada and the United States, and we are grateful it chose Sherbrooke for this green space project. The partnership included a grant of $20,000 USD and contributions of heavy equipment and skilled workers.

Today’s work included widening the pathways to make the green space more accessible for Elders, a lot of landscaping work including adding 40 yards of pine mulch to the flowerbeds, and installing decorative fencing.

So many local companies and skilled workers volunteered their time and equipment to make today’s work possible. A big thank you to the following companies:

- Ditch Witch
- The Rent- It Store
- Hub City Display
- Rent Quip
- United Rentals
- Sunbelt Rentals Saskatoon
- Core Rental Services
- Earthworks Equipment

We can’t wait to for you to experience and enjoy this rejuvenated green space!

It is a very busy and very exciting day at Sherbrooke!

We will share the story of this construction project courtesy of a generous donation from the American Rental Association and local businesses later this afternoon, but we wanted to give you a peek of the work being done that will benefit Elders in so many ways!

Cream Can Dinners are a very special occasion here at Sherbrooke! Our friend, Sally Siroski, leads our staff and volunteers in preparing this unique meal that consists of sausages, smokies, ham, potatoes and corn in a cream can.

We hosted a Cream Can Dinner today in the Tawaw Centre and it was a smashing success! A big thank you to Sally and everyone who helped make this such a memorable dining experience for Elders and their families 🌽
