Thank you to everyone who has reached out asking about my dad. They (my dad and aunt) safely evacuated the Flin Flon/Creighton/Denare Beach area last Thursday and are at the Ziola cabin near Greenwater Lake Provincial Park, SK.

We have been following the progress of the fires online and are devastated by the destruction of Denare Beach, SK.

This morning, we are watching the progress of the two fires (Club and Wolf) as they surround the communities. (Creighton, Flin Flon, Phantom Lake, Channing, Baker's Narrows, Schist Lake, etc).

It's hard to find words.

It's painful to watch.

Thinking of everyone from my home communities. ❤️

Thankful for all the brave people who have been trying to fight this.

'Up north' is a part of me and has my heart- and my heart is hurting.

(Included are photos of the current position of the fires from Natural Resources Canada website.)

In the past 22 months I have been to Calgary 21 times. (I like Calgary- but not that much.)

I have been away from Saskatoon 50 of the last 90 days.

But- school and final exams for massage therapy done! And fully certified in additional training in lymphatics and lymphodema.💪

I see Pilates as therapeutic movement. (It just makes your body feel so good!)

And after surviving Covid as a non-essential group fitness- I decided it was time to do additional training to take the business more in the direction of therapeutics.

Be watching! Exciting changes coming. (And I will finally have the time to focus on the studio/business.)

HUGE thank you to amazing clients who have been patient and understanding with my irregular schedule the past two years. (Excited to get back to a regular one.)

Day 28: and
Day 29:
🔹️Seal is like Rolling Like a Ball...but with a bit more! You need to be able to pause- holding the beginning and end of the roll to clap your feet (like a seal?)
🔹️In the 10 years since I have been certified- I have never taught to clients. It definitely takes control- and there is worry about cervical spine compression on the end of the exercise.
🔹️If you come to the studio- you know I don't like (unlike other instructors such as ).

🔹️I teach it about twice a year.....and I always do a thigh/hip flexor stretch prior to the exercise.
🔹️Ideally, you look like a rocking horse, rocking. 🤦‍♀️

Day 27: .
🔹️Boomerang starts to incorporate one of the that I love (depending on the lineage of Pilates there seems to be 6-8 principles : breath, balance, concentration, centering, flow, coordination, precision, flow)
🔹️Boomerang incorporates (arguably) 3 pilates exercises in 1- roll over, teaser, and spine stretch. . 🔹️Each lineage of Pilates (typically) has a set series of Pilates Mat exercises...some have more, some less. Some slight variations of each other. Doing the set of exercises in a set pattern would be considered more classical Pilates.
🔹️While I was trained classically, I have become more what is considered a 'contemporary' instructor. 🔹️My preference would be to mix and match across the lineages to create my own series of exercises (some made up!) to create flow through the work (and a class) that moves with the and works with the clients in front of me (and what their body needs any given day).

Day 26: .
🔹️Give your obliques some love with this exercise!
🔹️Be careful if you tend to overuse your upper back/neck....think about engaging under your armpit before the lift.
🔹️Wrist issues? Try the variation on your forearm.
🔹️A bit too much to start with? Start with knees bent and stacked- and press up from your knees.
🔹️Favourite variation is on the reformer, will post tomorrow!

Day 25: .
🔹️Not my prettiest exercise.🤦‍♀️
🔹️Be mindful of this exercise if you tend to overuse your hip flexors!
🔹️You should be using side abductors- think glute medius. But- we will tend to have a hinge at our hips and pull into the front line of the body (hip flexors) versus posterior chain.
🔹️Keep your chest open, chin lifted and shoulders away from your ears. Aim to get your lifted leg parallel to the ground!

Day 24:

Day 3: and my body is a bit tired! I typically teach around 8 classes a day (with groups and privates) but I rarely do the class. .
🔹️With 3 days of doing the classes- my body wasn't too enthusiastic about doing leg pulls. (It is enthusiastic about doing the online class at 4:30 today: 'My Back Hurts! Pilates Mat!')
🔹️Leg pull front and back require strength, core, shoulder stabilizers and extensors. My body finds leg pull facing up easier-I get to use my hip flexors!
🔹️Leg pull facing down requires hip extensors (think glutes) and a neutral pelvis. Keeping my butt/pelvis from wiggling around means I have limited movement because my tight hip flexors want to pull my pelvis into an anterior tilt.
🔹️Will be stretching my hip flexors soon!

Day 23

🔹️Those that know me well, know that I can't swim. I have a phobia of putting my head under the water....and leeches. And Saskatchewan lakes are full of leeches. As a child, my parents would take me to swimming lessons and I would stand at the pool edge and scream. I failed yellow 3 times. (Who remembers when we had colours in swimming??)
🔹️So, needless to say, I'm not a fan of in Pilates.
🔹️I have many modifications/variations of this one....mainly telling people to imagine they are holding onto a flutter board and kicking.
🔹️After a decade of Pilates, I still don't like it....maybe next decade. 🤷‍♀️
🔹️I do it though....because it's good for me. Modifications such as pads under my front hips help with my tight hip flexors. And a closed loop chain (such as holding onto a bar, straps, etc) help me find my lats and not my upper traps.
🔹️I want to know....who likes ?
