Ever wondered what goes into making your custom orthotics?

🦶🏻 It’s not just a foot mold and a quick fit; there’s a full process behind the scenes to ensure every step you take is supported, aligned, and pain-free.

From assessment to fitting (and everything in between), here’s how your orthotics are made; step by step, sole by sole.

➡️ Swipe through the photos to get an inside look at the technique!

The whole process takes about 1-2 weeks to complete.

👟 When you come to pick them up, don’t forget to bring the shoes you wear most often so we can make sure the fit is just right!

‼️ Be sure to book your appointment before the end of the year if you would like to submit to your insurance for coverage ‼️

📌 Please note: While we’re unable to direct bill insurance, we’re happy to provide a detailed estimate so you can confirm coverage ahead of time.⁣

Interested in custom orthotics? Give our office a call at (306) 975-9889 to book an appointment with Michael McDine, certified Orthotist!

Wearing your back brace but not feeling the support you expected?

Let’s walk through how to wear it right so you get the full benefit of its support and comfort.

LSO’s or lumbosacral orthoses are meant to stabilize and support the lower spine—specifically the lumbar and sacral regions. They help to:
🔸 Reduce movement in the lower back to allow healing after injury or surgery
🔸 Relieve pain by offloading pressure on spinal structures
🔸 Improve posture and spinal alignment
🔸 Support weak or fatigued muscles in the lower back

It’s commonly used for conditions like herniated discs, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, lumbar strain, or post-operative recovery.

Swipe through the post to see how to properly apply your LSO back brace. The brace featured is the Orliman Evotec LSO.

Pro Tips:
➰ Apply the brace while standing or slightly reclined for easier positioning.
➰ Ensure the brace is positioned correctly by checking in a mirror or with another person.
➰ Use the brace as recommended and avoid wearing it for prolonged periods of rest.

👩🏼‍⚕️ A diagnosis from a qualified healthcare provider is highly recommended before bracing. Once you are sure, our bracing techs can help get you properly fitted for the right support!

Simple strap, serious support.

💪🏻 Elbow tendonitis—often known as tennis elbow or golfer’s elbow —is caused by overuse or strain on the tendons around the elbow joint. It leads to pain, stiffness, and tenderness, especially with gripping or lifting.

How braces can help:
Elbow braces, especially counterforce braces, apply gentle pressure to the forearm muscles just below the elbow. This reduces strain on the tendons where they attach to the bone, helping to relieve pain, improve function, and support healing during activity or rest.

At SOSMC we carry a handful of bracing options for elbow tendonitis. Swipe through above to see which ones! 👀

Things to remember:
✌🏻 Place it two finger-widths below the elbow, on the forearm—not the joint.
🫱🏻‍🫲🏽 Keep it snug but not too tight—no numbness or tingling.
🏸 Wear it during activities that cause pain, not all day.
🏋🏽 Use it with rest, strengthening, and potentially physical therapy for best results.
🧼 Wash regularly to stay fresh and clean.

Interested in trying one? Call (306) 975 9889 to book an appointment.

Nagging pain on the inside or outside of your elbow?

You might be dealing with elbow tendonitis — commonly known as Tennis Elbow 🎾 or Golfer’s Elbow ⛳️

It’s caused by repetitive strain to the tendons around the elbow — from lifting, gripping, typing, or swinging. Whether you're an athlete, desk worker, or weekend warrior, no one's immune.

Common signs can include:
💥 Pain near the elbow joint
💥 Tenderness with gripping or lifting
💥 Weak grip strength
💥 Discomfort during daily activities

Treatment Tips:
💪🏻 Activity modification & rest
💪🏻 Targeted strengthening & mobility work
💪🏻 Bracing options like a counterforce brace or compression sleeve can reduce strain on the tendons and support healing

Don’t ignore early symptoms! It’s easier to treat before it becomes chronic.

A diagnosis from a qualified healthcare provider is highly recommended before bracing. Once you are sure, our bracing techs can help get you properly fitted for the right support!

Done your recovery? Store your ice machine properly so it stays in good condition!

👀 Watch below to see how to properly store your Össur Cold Rush Machine.

It’s a good idea to clean your machine before long-term storage.

How to clean your machine:
🫧 Add 2 tablespoons of liquid bleach or 3 ounces of 3% hydrogenated peroxide to the water.
🫧 Connect hoses to the Cold Rush Pad and turn the unit on to the MAX setting.
🫧 Allow the water mixture to circulate for 5 minutes.
🫧 Wipe down the inside and outside with a mild soap solution or a disinfectant wipe.
Once clean you can follow along on how to properly drain, dry, and store your machine.

It’s important to remember:
📦 Ensure the machine and all its parts are fully dry before storing.
📦 Store in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
