For those of you with IBS - give this a quick read!

Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) is quickly becoming recognized as a major leading cause in the development of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Although research shows a wide range of percentages, it is estimated that SIBO may be causing up to 70% of IBS. Symptoms include gas, bloating, constipation, loose stool, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and more. As a Naturopathic Doctor who offers testing for SIBO, I see a lot of positive test results in my office! If you are someone with IBS and have tried many different things without success (ie. probiotics, digestive enzymes, food eliminations, etc.), you may want to read into SIBO!

The main culprit in hormonal acne is Testosterone.

Testosterone increases the production of oil and sebum in the pores. This over production can clog the pores and lead to the development of acne. Most of my patients find their hormonal acne presents on the jawline, cheeks, and chin, but overly oily skin can also cause breakouts on the neck, forehead, and in the hairline. Other things that can clog the pores are sweat, dirt, dead skin cells, makeup, and sunscreen, so I always encourage a topical skin care routine in addition to working on the hormones!

This is Dr. Stokes' favorite prenatal vitamin! Prenatal SAP by NFH contains high-quality, bioavailable nutrients that your body can easily absorb.

A few things we love about this product:

Methylated Folate (5-MTHF) – Prenatal SAP includes the active form of folate, called methyltetrahydrofolate - or MTHF for short! This is the best version of folate to maximize absorption. This active form is readily available for the body to use, meaning it does not need to go through multiple steps of conversion until our body can use it. How is it different from folic acid? Folic acid is a synthetic, inactive form that needs to go through those multiple steps before our body can use it. Science has learned that based on some people's genetics, their bodies can not convert inactive folate properly. This is why Dr. Stokes loves to use active folate!
Prenatal SAP offers 1000mcg (1mg) of active folate per serving (3 capsules).

Iron (Iron Bisglycinate) – it uses a highly absorbable iron that is gentle on the stomach. Included to help prevent iron deficiency during pregnancy.
Prenatal SAP provides a good dose of iron at 30mg per serving (3 capsules).

This product is suitable for vegetarians and is non-GMO.
Prenatal SAP by NFH is available at our clinic!

It’s that time of year to start your Vitamin D supplement!

Reduced daylight, skin exposure, and a lower angle of the sun’s rays decrease our ability to produce Vitamin D from October to March in Canada. Choose a liquid or gel capsule supplement for the best absorption. I usually recommend at least 2000 IU per day, however check with your health care provider what the right dose is for you!
