I’m thrilled to welcome Nurse Practitioner Juli Briglio to Northern Wellness Collective! Juli has been a dedicated pillar in Sault Ste. Marie’s healthcare community for years, and her heart for compassionate, patient-centred care is unmatched.

Together, we’re creating a space where integrative care isn’t an alternative—it’s the standard. When healthcare providers collaborate, care becomes more connected, more thoughtful, and truly centered around the patient—creating space for better outcomes and a supported experience at every stage.

As a naturopathic doctor with a deep focus in reproductive and perinatal care, I’ve seen firsthand how gaps in our healthcare system can leave patients feeling overwhelmed and unsupported—especially here in Northern Ontario. That’s why this next step means so much to me.

This collaborative model blends medical access and standards of care with holistic insight: from blood work and prescriptions to acupuncture and lifestyle counselling. We’re creating space for longer conversations, deeper assessments, and personalized support. We’re proud to bring this collaborative care model to Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma region—right where it’s needed most.

More care. More access. More support—close to home.

I’m deeply grateful to the patients and families who continue to trust us with their care. You make this work possible. Thank you for being here! 💙

Every week, multiple times a week a patient sits across from me and says “I no longer have a family doctor”.

Living in the North, this is nothing new to me, but seeing how this is impacting patients has changed the way I practice and how I advocate for patients.

Did you know:
1. Shorter Life Expectancy: Shockingly, people in the north have a shorter life expectancy compared to those in Ontario overall. In the North West region, life expectancy is 2.9 years lower than the provincial average, while in the North East region, it’s 2.5 years lower.

2. Higher Prevalence of Chronic Conditions: Residents of the north are more likely to report having multiple chronic health conditions. These conditions pose significant challenges and require ongoing management and support, highlighting the importance of accessible and comprehensive healthcare services.

3. Limited Access to Primary Care: Individuals in the north are much less likely to report being able to see a family doctor, nurse practitioner, or other regular healthcare provider when needed. This lack of access can result in delayed or inadequate care, exacerbating health issues and leading to poorer health outcomes.

4. Neglected Preventative Care: Acute healthcare needs often take precedence in the north, leaving preventative care services neglected. This imbalance means that conditions may go undetected or untreated until they reach a critical stage, further straining an already burdened healthcare system.

As advocates for equitable healthcare access, it’s crucial that we raise awareness about these disparities and work towards meaningful solutions. By advocating for increased resources, improved infrastructure, and innovative healthcare delivery models, we can strive to ensure that all individuals, regardless of where they live, have access to the quality care they deserve.

This is what I love about naturopathic medicine…

Hello! I’m Dr. Kelsey Hroch, BSc, ND, Director and Naturopathic Doctor at Northern Wellness Collective here in Sault Ste. Marie, ON.

These are some of the reasons why I'm passionate about Naturopathic Medicine and being a Naturopathic Doctor (ND).

1. Support for our healthcare system: Naturopathic medicine and its practitioners can provide valuable support to our healthcare system, particularly in regions like Northern Ontario where many people struggle to find a family doctor or need to travel to larger cities for care. By integrating ND's into primary care settings, we can enhance health promotion and preventative interventions.

2. Collaboration with your healthcare team: Naturopathic Doctors can complement your existing healthcare team. You don't have to choose between conventional medicine and naturopathy. NDs are enthusiastic about working collaboratively with your family doctor and other practitioners to help you achieve optimal health.

3. Dedicated time for comprehensive care: One of the advantages of naturopathic medicine is the luxury of time. During initial visits, both I and other NDs typically spend 60-90 minutes with patients. This extended time allows us to gather detailed information about your medical history, understand you as an individual, and learn about your values and expectations regarding naturopathic care. Physical exams and lab tests, if necessary, are performed to develop a personalized plan to address your concerns.

4. Evidence-based medicine (EBM) as a foundation: Our practice is rooted in evidence-based medicine (EBM), which comprises three pillars: relevant researched evidence, clinical expertise, and patient values and preferences. By combining these pillars, we make informed decisions about your health and create a plan tailored to your needs.
