Where does a kinesiologist fit into the picture?
One way to think about it, is that a kinesiologist’s scope of practice fits somewhere between services offered by another allied health professional (like a physiotherapist, occupational therapist, massage therapist, etc.) and doing workouts independently or at the gym with a certified personal trainer. There is some overlap between the knowledge of these professionals and care they can provide. It is often a team effort 🤝between all of these providers to help you work towards your unique movement goals!
After initial acute treatment with a physiotherapist, chiropractor, massage therapist, or occupational therapist (to name a few), clients may find themselves unsure of the next steps to continue getting stronger/ more flexible/ improve endurance💪. Maybe your acute healthcare provider (the first person you see after an injury) suggested you try going to a gym to continue to maintain the strength and mobility you gained, but you don’t know where to start? That’s where a kinesiologist can come into the picture.
Kinesiologists have knowledge and understanding of various injuries and conditions that you may have (or have had in the past) and can use that knowledge to develop a training plan specific to your needs, taking into consideration your medical history, to help you maintain and even further improve your strength, mobility, balance, coordination, and level of conditioning. Kinesiologists can bridge the gap between the time period right after your injury and jumping right to a gym to exercise on your own.
