“Questions:
• What does your journey mean to you today?
My journey means a lot to me now.
I started using when I was 19, and the years when I should have been building my future—going to college and starting my life—were instead consumed by m**hamphetamine.
I’ve been clean for 5 years, and while I’m proud of that, some days I’m still really hard on myself. It’s not always easy to let go of what I’ve been through or everything that’s happened. But I’m still here, still growing, and still choosing better for myself every day
•What made you choose to mark this moment with a tattoo? I decided to mark my day I got sober because it’s one of the biggest obstacles I had to overcome in my life and hopefully it can also inspire someone else to get the tattoo as well.
• What keeps you going on the hard days? My beautiful 15 month old boy and my fiancé who is my saving grace. I love you Devon! Also lots of love to my mother who was there for me the whole time. The one who stuck by me during my withdrawals and kept me going and still does. I love you mama. Lots of love to my father and brother who are always there to make me laugh.
• What are you most proud of in your journey so far? I am most proud of the fact that I stayed cleaned from m**h. I came to realization how much it destroyed my life and myself. I am proud that I did what serves me best and I will continue to do so.
• What would you say to someone who’s at the beginning of their journey? My father always told me “protect your heart because it’s the only one you have” it’s som**hing I live by now. If you are at the beginning of your sobriety be kind to yourself. It takes time, even years but keep pushing and eventually you’ll get there. Surround yourself with nothing but love and remember that getting clean isnt linear. “
