The Ontario Finnish Resthome Association

The Ontario Finnish Resthome Association Providing a home for seniors with resident-centered care while prioritizing quality of life. We pride ourselves in being "Homes with a Heart".

The OFRA is a non-profit charitable organization founded in Sept. 1971. It originated with a group of Finnish individuals whose goal was to build a home for seniors of Finnish & Estonian descent. While OFRA continues to honor it's Finnish & Estonian roots, over the past 4 decades it has evolved into what could be described as a microcosm of the "Canadian Experience". Today the OFRA is a mosaic of diverse cultures, a retirement community offering safe and affordable housing to all seniors in the Algoma district. We operate under the guiding principle that each resident be provided with the best environment possible within which they are able to maintain an optimum level of functioning and maximize the quality of their daily life.

A Heartfelt Thank You !

As we move forward in our Giving Tuesday initiative, our hearts are filled with gratitude. Thanks to the generosity of our caring community, we have already raised $7,520. Kiitos thank you to everyone who has shown their support so far. Your kindness is already making a meaningful difference.

But we are not done yet.

We are still working toward our $40,000 goal, and your support continues to be essential. With winter settling in and the snow beginning to fall, our Giving Tuesday momentum carries on into our Christmas Appeal Campaign.

One of our important priorities is upgrading the front door of Suomi Eesti Maja. During the colder months, this entrance becomes difficult even unsafe for many of our residents. A new, accessible, weather-resilient door would dramatically improve daily life, offering warmth, safety, dignity, and ease of movement.

It may seem like a small change, but for our residents, it affects everyday moments:
• entering and exiting the home safely
• staying protected from harsh winter winds
• maintaining independence and confidence
• feeling welcomed and cared for, every time they return

As a not-for-profit organization, we rely on the generosity of individuals who believe in creating comfort, security, and a true sense of home for our elders. Every gift no matter the size brings us one step closer to making this essential improvement a reality.

We are deeply grateful for the support shown so far, and we’re hopeful as we continue toward our goal. Together, we can ensure our residents experience the warmth and accessibility they deserve.

Thank you for walking with us. Let’s keep this momentum going the door is not open yet, but with your help, it will be.

There’s still time to give today.

If you haven’t donated yet, you can still help us replace SEM’s aging entrance door a simple change that will make daily life safer and easier for every resident who walks, wheels, or is welcomed through it.

To remind you, this project isn’t about a building.
It’s about dignity.
It’s about independence.
It’s about ensuring the people we care for can enter their home with ease.

It’s not too late your gift can still be part of today’s impact.

💙 Giving Tuesday is Here!

Your gift no matter the size helps us create a smoother, safer, and more welcoming entrance for everyone who walks through these doors. Every donation is a step toward comfort, dignity, and a brighter day for our residents.

Help us to reach our $40,000 Goal!

3 days to go 💙

Today, we’re looking back at where it all began.
These rare photos from the construction of Suomi Eesti Maja remind us of the vision, teamwork, and community spirit that built a home our residents cherish every day.

As we honour those beginnings, we continue the work they started caring for this place and ensuring it remains safe, accessible, and welcoming.

This Giving Tuesday, help us continue their legacy.
Every donation brings us closer to installing new sliding doors that support comfort, dignity, and independence for all who walk through them.

Our Giving Tuesday campaign is moving forward, and we’re excited to share how new sliding doors at Suomi Eesti Maja will benefit everyone including Kestitupa, the heart of community gatherings.

With a safer, more accessible entrance, residents, families, and volunteers can enjoy events, celebrations, and programs without the struggle of the heavy, old doors. Every meeting, activity, and shared moment becomes smoother, more welcoming, and full of joy.

Let’s keep the momentum going!
Help us reach our $40,000 goal and make every entrance a warm welcome.
