What is a Chiropodist?

They practice podiatric medicine and are essential members of the inter-professional healthcare team. Chiropodists are skilled in assessing the needs of their patients and managing both chronic and acute conditions affecting foot and lower limb function. They manage a wide variety of disorders, injuries and local manifestations of systemic conditions. As primary care providers, Chiropodists can practice these skills independent of physician referral and supervision.

Chiropodists are licensed to perform ‘regulated’ or ‘controlled’ acts such as:


  • Advanced general foot care techniques

  • Local anaesthetic
