Caregivers show up every day and often without recognition or rest and can take a real toll on mental health. Burnout, stress, anxiety and isolation are more common than we talk about and the data backs this up.

A 2024 national study by the Canadian Centre for Caregiving Excellence found that 47% of caregivers say they feel tired because of their caregiving responsibilities; 44% feel worried or anxious and 37% feel overwhelmed. And it doesn't stop there. On average, caregivers provide 5.1 hours of care a day, adding up to more than 30 hours of unpaid care per week. This is nearly the equivalent of a full-time job.

For those balancing caregiving with employment, the impact is even sharper. According to the Mental Health Research Canada, one in three working caregivers experience burnout and they are nearly twice as likely to miss work due to mental health reasons compared to those without caregiving responsibilities.

At CMHA, we see this every day. Whether someone is caring for a loved one or trying to manage their own wellbeing at the same time, support matters for both.

If you're a caregiver, you deserve care too.

CMHA Algoma will be closed Good Friday, April 3 and Easter Monday, April 6 for the Easter Holiday. We will reopen for regular hours on Tuesday April 7.

Have a wonderful holiday.

Visibility is powerful. This year, International Transgender Day of Visibility is focused on safety and building power across generations. Because being seen should mean being safe. It should mean access to care.

Trans people are living full, ordinary lives while navigating systems that don’t always make space.

Today is about visibility, but what comes next is what matters.
