🌿 Spring Reset: Ease Your Body Back Into Movement

Your body spent all winter in survival mode — hunched against the cold, sitting more, moving less ❄️🪑

Now that spring is here, it’s tempting to jump straight back into workouts and long walks 🏃‍♂️🌸

But your joints and muscles need a gradual re-introduction.

Here’s what we tell every patient at The Rehab Nest this time of year:

✅ Start shorter than you think
Even 10 minutes of walking daily 🚶‍♀️ is a better foundation than one intense session per week.

🧘‍♂️ Stretch the right areas first
Focus on your hip flexors and upper back — the spots most affected by winter posture.

🔥 Warm up longer
Your muscles are still adjusting to the season, so give them time.

⚠️ Listen to your body
If something feels off — persistent stiffness, a nagging ache, or pain that doesn’t ease up — don’t wait.

🧠 Concussions Are More Than “Just Waiting It Out”

Concussions are mild brain injuries caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or body. Symptoms can be physical (headache, dizziness), cognitive (foggy thinking), emotional (irritability), or sleep-related.

The Old Advice: Stay in a dark room.
The New Approach: 24–48 hours of rest, then light activity that doesn’t worsen symptoms. Gradually reintroduce screens and activity, and seek professional guidance if symptoms persist.

Stay safe, everyone! Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a Yellow Winter Storm Warning for the GTA, including Toronto, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Caledon, Mississauga, and Brampton.

We are expecting a messy mix of snow, ice pellets, and freezing rain starting this morning and continuing into the evening. Roads and walkways will be slippery and dangerous, so please take extra care if you need to head out.

❄️ Clinic Update:
The safety of our patients and staff is our top priority. If the weather makes it difficult for you to attend your appointment today, please give us a call! We are happy to help you reschedule or discuss virtual care options where possible.

⚠️ Winter Safety Tips:
Drive for the conditions: Slow down and allow plenty of extra travel time.

Watch your step: Icy patches can be hidden under fresh slush.

Shovel safely: If you’re clearing snow today, remember to lift with your legs, not your back, to avoid injury!
