4 Signs Your Child Needs Urgent Care
Parents often worry when kids get sick, but knowing key red flags helps decide when to seek immediate help. These signs suggest potential emergencies requiring prompt medical attention at urgent care or ER.
Difficulty Breathing
Watch for fast, labored breathing, wheezing, nostril flaring, or chest retractions (skin pulling between ribs). Blue lips or extreme fatigue during breathing also signal low oxygen—call emergency services right away.
High or Persistent Fever
Fever over 100.4°F (38°C) in infants under 3 months, or unresponsive high fever (over 102°F) with lethargy, rash, stiff neck, or seizure needs urgent evaluation to rule out serious infection.
Severe Dehydration
No wet diapers/urination for 12+ hours, dry mouth/lips, sunken eyes/fontanelle, or extreme drowsiness indicate dehydration from vomiting/diarrhea—especially dangerous in young children.
Lethargy or Confusion
Unusual sleepiness, hard to wake, irritability, or disorientation (not acting normally) can signal infection, head injury, or metabolic issues requiring fast assessment
