Inspired Design at Inspired Living Seaforth
The old adage "measure twice, cut once" is something we have applied to every aspect of the Inspired Living Seaforth project, including the interior design of the Retirement Home, and the Cognitive Circles within it.
For this project to be a success, we have to build it right. To help build it right, we have asked for input on making the Retirement Home features appropriate for those using it. Our Inspired Design Committee consists of local Seaforth residents, who themselves have an impairment. Impairments of participants include cognitive, visual, hearing etc., and the Committee also includes those who have personal experience as a care giver to an impaired person.
The Inspired Design Committee meets every couple of months, and our first meeting was just before Christmas. The meetings are moderated by an assistant professor from the University of Western Ontario and our architect and primary building designer attends the meetings as well to hear the comments and suggestions first hand and implement them within the design of the Retirement Home.
The goal of the committee is to identify design elements which can be incorporated into our plans to make sure that we have a facility which is impairment friendly, rather than just building it and then asking "What did we do wrong?" after the residents start living their experience.
If you, or someone you know, would like to participate in Inspired Design, please let us know. Thank you!
