Sunshine Coast Hospice

Sunshine Coast Hospice We support people with life-limiting illnesses and their loved ones. We’re also working with VCH to open the Coast’s first residential hospice in 2026.

Through trained volunteers, we offer free grief, bereavement and advance care planning services. Coast Hospice has been providing compassionate care since 1987. Our volunteers offer companionship and bereavement support at home, in hospital and in comfortable private hospice rooms here on the Sunshine Coast. Hospice provides extensive volunteer training and support in bereavement and vigil care to allow us to continue to provide the best services possible. Together we make a difference; together we create a compassionate community.

✨ Celebrating Our Volunteers: A Heartfelt Gathering at Hospice House

One of the greatest highlights of our year has been the chance to recognize and celebrate our extraordinary volunteers! On Thursday, September 18th, the warmth and spirit of our compassionate coastal community came alive at Hospice House, where we gathered to honour those who make our mission possible.

Over a delicious meal lovingly prepared by volunteer Annie Rogers, laughter and stories filled the room as we reflected on another incredible year of service. With more than 90 volunteers giving their time and hearts, our community continues to shine bright with empathy and connection. 💙

🌸 Honouring Excellence: Volunteer Awards

We awarded six people with two awards this year: the Roey Award and the Heart of Hospice Award.

🏆 The Roey Award to Diane Head for her leadership, compassion, and remarkable work in expanding our grief support programs.

💙 The Heart of Hospice Award to Kate Jones, Kate Taylor, Emily Merrill, Jody Shaw, and Daniel Boileau for their extraordinary team effort in supporting a client at the end of life.

Thank you to all of our volunteers. Your compassion, presence, and dedication are the heartbeat of our community. We appreciate all that you do. 💛

💗 Perinatal & Infant Loss Awareness – High Tea for Healing and Connection 🌸

At Coast Hospice, we understand the profound and lasting impact of perinatal and infant loss. That’s why we’re honoured to co-host a gentle gathering on Sunday, October 19, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Gibsons Community Centre (700 Park Rd), alongside our partners Sunshine Coast Community Services and Vancouver Coastal Health.

This High Tea is a warm and welcoming space to remember and honour the little ones whose lives, however brief, left an imprint on our hearts. There will be tea, sandwiches, homemade treats, a resource table, and gentle somatic activities to support healing.

Whether you've experienced miscarriage, pregnancy loss, infant loss or you're a loved one walking alongside someone who has, you are not alone. Come connect with others who understand, including peer facilitators who carry lived experience.

💬 To register or for more information, please contact Shirley French at 604-865-1108 or sfrench@sccss.ca.

We hope to see you there. 💙💛

🧡 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – Orange Shirt Day

We stand in solidarity with the Squamish and shíshálh Nations to honour and remember the children who never returned home, the survivors of residential schools, and the families and communities forever impacted.

Coast Hospice recognizes that grief is not only personal—it is also collective and generational. We walk the path of reconciliation with humility, listening deeply to Indigenous voices, and acknowledging the truth of our shared history. All healing begins with truth and continues through connection, remembrance and respect. Today, we wear orange to remember.
