Today, I had the honour of standing in Coach Cory’s corner during her very first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition.

Watching her step onto the mats wasn’t just inspiring—it was a powerful reflection of her drive, humility, and the way she shows up for her teammates every single day.

Coach Cory lives the martial artist’s path. She’s constantly learning, pushing herself, showing up with consistency, and lifting others through her energy. She brings a rare mix of grit and grace that creates a positive ripple through the entire room.

As our JJFL Professor Jorge Britto once said, “You’ve already won when you step up to compete in the first place.” Coach Cory did just that—stepping up with courage, composure, and a whole lot of heart.

I’m incredibly proud of her. She’s not just a great teammate—she’s a role model, and this is only the beginning.

The NOMAD Ladies Samurai Series is a 6-week self-defence journey designed to support and empower you—physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Starts May 26th, 2025
Mondays | 7:30–8:30PM | $150 for all 6 classes

This course is for you if you’ve ever thought:
• “I want to feel safer walking alone.”
• “I wish I knew what to do if someone grabbed me.”
• “I just want to feel strong again.”

You’ll learn self-defence tools through the Samurai Combos—easy-to-follow techniques that don’t require strength or prior experience.

You’ll also explore:
• How to use your voice with confidence
• How to stay calm under pressure
• How movement and breath can change everything

No martial arts background? Perfect.
This space is supportive, non-judgmental, and welcoming to all bodies and all ages. Come as you are—we’ve got you.

This morning, a group of our Nomads stepped onto the competition mats at Vancouver —many of them for the very first time.

It takes real courage to step into competition. It’s not just about technique—it’s about facing your nerves, pushing past fear, and testing yourself in an unfamiliar space. Today, our team did just that, and I couldn’t be more proud of every single one of them.

Medals weren’t the goal. Sure, they’re nice—but this journey was never about standing on a podium. It was about showing up, growing through challenge, and making memories that will last far longer than any hardware. The biggest wins today were the lessons learned, the bonds strengthened, and the courage it took to step up.

Huge thanks to Coach for guiding the team through the day and holding space for everyone. And to all the parents and teammates who came to support—you are the foundation of this community, and your presence means everything.

I didn’t compete today, but I walked away inspired. Watching our Nomads dig deep, support each other, and carry themselves with humility and heart—that’s what it’s all about.

Proud is an understatement. This is just the beginning.

Today’s belt testing was nothing short of inspiring. Watching our students step up, push past their limits, and showcase the hard work they’ve poured into their training was incredible. Welcome back, Nomad Families! 👊

We are beyond excited to kick off the new semester of **NOMAD BJJ Youth** and introduce the *all-new* and *revamped* **Mini Nomad** program! Whether you’re returning or joining us for the first time, we’ve got an incredible journey lined up for your kids.

🚀 **Jr. and Sr. Nomads:** Get ready for 5 months of high-energy classes packed with fun, movement, and learning. This semester, we’re diving deep into mastering BJJ fundamentals, building confidence, and working together to help every student grow both on and off the mats.

🎉 **Mini Nomads (Ages 3-6):** Our youngest warriors will be kicking off the *brand-new* Mini Nomad program this week! These 6-week cycles are filled with playful movement, games, and interactive lessons designed to help your child develop coordination, basic BJJ concepts, and a love for fitness and learning.

💥 We’ve got more in store this semester than ever before, and we can’t wait to see everyone back on the mats—stronger, more resilient, and ready for an unforgettable season.

It is with a mix of sadness and gratitude that we say goodbye to our cherished member, Derek. As he embarks on a new journey, moving to Victoria with his family, we want to express how deeply he will be missed. Derek’s presence on the mats has been a true pleasure, and we have all been honored to train alongside him.

We hope that Derek continues his journey in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and finds a new, welcoming family to learn, roll, and grow with in Victoria. It has been a privilege to introduce him to this art and to be the one to give him his first stripe.

Derek, we wish you and your family all the best in your new home. Our doors are always open for you, and we hope to see you again soon. Keep rolling and growing, and know that you will always have a place here with us.

True Martial Artist. An inspiration and example. His closing remarks are what we all should roll model. Inspiration through victory or inspiration through how we rise and overcome obstacles.

Nothing changes 💯

I am who I am. There is no victory that is ever going make me feel like I have done enough & there is no loss that is ever going to break me & make me fall out of love of the process. I’m still going to show up to train, to teach, to challenge myself, to be the best I can be, to inspire those around me, & to be the best example of a True Martial Artist that I can be.

The victories mean more when you know what it’s like to fall short & true character is only built when you pass thru obstacles & temporary defeats.

I know I’ve accomplished a lot in my career & have nothing to prove, but I promise you, I’m still one of the best in the world RIGHT NOW!

This had nothing to do with age or the game passing me by. I made a mistake & he did what he’s supposed to do, what he trained countless hours to do.

I know everything happens for a reason & difficult roads lead to the most beautiful destinations. I have experienced it too many times in my life & career to have any doubt about it.

The work never ends & we are the author of our own stories. I wasn’t able to inspire you with a win, so I will inspire you with how I come back from this loss. You will see how much more I have to show 💪❤️‍🔥
