“We must not run away from our heartbreaks in life; we must go through them, however fiery they may be, and bring with us out of the fire a stronger character, a deeper reliance on ourselves and on the Creator…
Love, hate, passion, fear, sorrow, pain—they act on us and spur us on, they develop our qualities and give us colour and individuality. …
We are not expected to like suffering […] but we should, when the cup is at our lips and we have no choice but to drink it, drink it down strongly and courageously, knowing it will hurt but strengthen, wound but eventually heal.”
Ruhíyyih Khánum in “The Greatness Which Might Be Theirs” (p. 87):

“Now, if thou wishest to know the true remedy which will heal man from all sickness and will give him the health of the divine kingdom, know that it is the precepts and teachings of God. Focus thine attention upon them.”

“Illnesses which occur by reason of physical causes should be treated by doctors with medical remedies; those which are due to spiritual causes disappear through spiritual means. Thus an illness caused by affliction, fear, nervous impressions, will be healed more effectively by spiritual rather than by physical treatment.”
Selections from the Writings of ‘Abdu’l Bahá, Section 133 (pp. 151–152)

“It is perfectly proper to consult professional experts… As Bahá’u’lláh has urged us to avail ourselves of the help of good physicians, Bahá’ís certainly are… free to turn to psychiatry for assistance but should, when available, do so.”

“According to the explicit decree of Bahá’u’lláh one must not turn aside from the advice of a competent doctor. It is imperative to consult one even if the patient himself be a well‑known and eminent physician. In short, the point is that you should maintain your health by consulting a highly‑skilled physician.”
‘Abdu’l‑Bahá, Selections from the Writings of ‘Abdul Baha, Section 135, p. 156

"Tests and trials, far from being punitive, are the means by which the human soul is strengthened, much as a muscle grows in strength through exertion.”

"Men who suffer not, attain no perfection. The plant most pruned by the gardeners is that one which, when the summer comes, will have the most beautiful blossoms and the most abundant fruit.”

“Grief and sorrow do not come to us by chance, they are sent to us by the Divine Mercy for our own perfecting.”
— ‘Abdu’l‑Bahá, Paris Talks, p. 50

Join us Thursday May 15, 2025 for a Webinar entitled, “The intersection of Oppression: Women’s Rights and Religious Freedom in Iran”.

Iran continues to perpetrate alarming violations of human rights, with women and minorities facing the brunt of systemic oppression. The targeting of these groups is part of an accelerating erosion of human rights protections for all Iranian citizens.

The event will explore the intersection of gender and religious persecution, with particular attention given to the persecution of the Baha’i community, and its broader implications for human rights in Iran.

Nazanin Afshin-Jam MacKay, Fernand de Varennes, Michael Page and Elham Seddigh Ayafor will share their expertise in this area moderated by Rhonda Gossen.

“O SON OF MAN! If adversity befall thee not in My path, how canst thou walk in the ways of them that are content with My pleasure? If trials afflict thee not in thy longing to meet Me, how wilt thou attain the light in thy love for My beauty?”

In a world prone to “us versus them” thinking, how can we strengthen our capacity to build consensus and unity of thought? The Bahá'í Writings describe a unique collective process referred to as “consultation.”

According to the Ruhi Institute, Bahá'í consultation helps people reach agreement, solve problems, define a course of action, foster awareness and well-being, and contribute to social transformation. This process can assist individuals and groups to elevate the character of their discussions in all arenas of life, including personal, professional and family lives, relationships and community service.

Sounds great, right?
