On January 15, at the University of Saskatchewan, SRPC met with Canada’s Minister of Health to discuss the state of rural medicine and rural healthcare in Canada.

The conversation focused on key priorities for rural communities, including the need for national licensure, a coordinated rural health human resources (HHR) strategy, and sustainable funding for advanced training to support rural physicians.

We appreciate the opportunity for meaningful dialogue and collaboration to strengthen healthcare access for rural and remote Canadians.

An inspiring night in Saskatchewan ✨

At the University of Saskatchewan, SRPC President Dr. Gavin Parker, President-Elect Dr. Sarah Giles, and SRPC member Dr. Jon Witt shared their journeys and love for rural practice with students interested in rural and remote medicine. The discussion also highlighted how SRPC supports learners as they explore and pursue careers in these settings.

SRPC’s Nova Scotia rep, Dr. Olaide Odumosu, spent time with the very first cohort of students at Cape Breton’s new medical campus. Future rural generalists who are already showing so much passion for serving communities across the province. 💙🌲

We shared pizza, stories, and a peek into how the SRPC is here to support you from medical school all the way to retirement. Once you go rural… you’re part of the family. 😉
