Nova Scotia Warm Line A warm line is an alternative to a crisis line and run by peers.

Peer operators are trained to listen to anonymous callers, offer compassion and validation, and assist callers in connecting with their own internal resources, strengths, and direction.

That's right (sort of)! We're currently cruising through our soft launch through May, gathering feedback from our engaged participants to fine-tune everything before our full throttle launch in June. 🌞

☎️ What's all the buzz about? It's FREE phone-based programming designed for isolated seniors. It's not just fun and social; it's also informative and as easy as pie—just dial in with any phone you have! 📞 Join us for Bingo, trivia, music sessions, and good old chit-chats.

This pilot program is set to fly until December, but our vision is to make it a permanent fixture! 🔮

JOB OPPORTUNITY - The Shelburne County Mental Health & Wellness Association is partnering with Spencer House of Halifax, to offer a pilot program called Seniors' Centre Without Walls! (With support from Community Links and The Good Companions). The Seniors' Centre Without Walls is a phone-based outreach program designed to increase social connection and reduce loneliness for isolated older adults from the comfort of their homes. Programming ranges from health and wellness speakers to games, music and cultural topics.
We are seeking a full-time, work-from-home, Coordinator for a one year contract. We are a Shelburne County, NS-based mental health non-profit group that also runs the Nova Scotia Warm Line.

If you would like to volunteer with us, you would receive brief initial and ongoing training and support. You just need a stable internet connection and can work in confidentiality from the comfort of a private space in your home.

Whether you are available to work one afternoon every week, or even just two shifts per month, you will make a huge difference in the life of your community.

She can answer any of your questions, explain how to get your background check done, and tell you about upcoming training opportunities. Our hours are Monday to Thursday, 1-5pm. JOB OPPORTUNITY
NS Warm Line Worker
Part-time/Term position
8hrs/week; Mondays and Tuesdays
Starting right away

The warm line worker takes anonymous calls from call-in clients at a problem level or as part of the Warm Line’s Self-care Program, offering peer support and resource information as required. The warm line worker also assesses the caller and, when appropriate, refers them to the Nova Scotia Crisis Line or 911. The warm line worker also makes Wellness Check requests with the appropriate RCMP detachment as required.

The warm line worker also supports the Warm Line’s Seniors’ Safety Call Out Program, by calling senior clients on a regular schedule and participating in meaningful conversation while watching for signs of possible distress, abuse, food insecurities, etc.

Requirements
• Peer Support training
• Lived experience with mental health challenges
• Excellent communication skills
• Excellent conversational skills
• Good computer skills

The successful applicant may also be required to occasionally sub for other paid warm line staff in the event of sickness and vacations.

These calls provide much welcome and needed contact with our province's isolated and vulnerable seniors. There are no cold calls. All of our clients expect and enjoy our conversations. We provide training and support and you work from the comfort of your own home using your computer and home internet.

If you feel a volunteer role with the warm line is for you, or if you have any questions, please join us for an information session at the MacKay Library in Shelburne on Wednesday, December 14 at 2:00pm.
