Should I tip my RMT?

Registered Massage Therapists are regulated health professionals, similar to physiotherapists or chiropractors. Because of that, tipping is never expected—and is often discouraged within our profession.

Just like you wouldn’t tip your chiro or physio, massage therapy is intended to be viewed as healthcare, not a luxury service.

That said, I’m always grateful for the kindness and thought behind a tip. If you’ve ever tipped your RMT, please know it comes from a good place 🤍
But the best way to support your RMT is:
• Showing up consistently to your treatment plan
• Referring friends & family
• Valuing massage as part of your healthcare, not a “treat”

My goal—and the goal of this profession—is for massage therapy to be seen as clinical, intentional care, not something extra or indulgent

🦷 Habits & TMJ: It’s Not About Stopping, It’s About Adapting

Some habits—like chewing gum 🍬, clenching your jaw 😬, or biting pens—can contribute to TMJ tension and dysfunction. But asking someone to stop completely isn’t always realistic or helpful. Many of these behaviors serve a purpose, like managing stress 🌿 or keeping the mind occupied.

Instead, the goal is modification, not elimination.

✅ For example:
• If you chew gum all day 🍬, try reducing how much you chew or simply hold the gum in your cheek instead of constant chewing.
• If you clench your jaw 😬 during stressful moments, practice gentle jaw stretches or mindful relaxation techniques instead of forcing yourself to stop altogether.

Small adjustments can prevent dysfunction and pain while respecting the benefits these habits provide.

Remember: TMJ health isn’t about perfection—it’s about finding balance ⚖️ that works for you

and apparently so is muscle tension 😌

A reminder I want every patient to hear:

Every day can look different—and that’s okay.

I don’t expect you to feel the same from one treatment to the next. I don’t compare today to last week, last month, or your “best day.”

I meet you exactly where you’re at in this moment.

Some days your body is ready to work. Some days it needs support. Some days things flare for no obvious reason. My job is to adapt the treatment to you, not the other way around.

You never need to perform, explain yourself, or feel like you’re “behind.”

Your body tells the story—and it’s my job to listen.

It’s day 2 of the new year and everyone is talking about goals and resolutions.

Here’s the part that gets missed: real change doesn’t come from pushing through pain—it comes from understanding what your body actually needs.

TMJ dysfunction isn’t just jaw pain. It can show up as headaches, neck tension, facial pain, ear symptoms, or restricted movement that’s hard to make sense of on your own.

This isn’t fluffy self-care. This is assessment, intentional treatment, and helping you interpret what your body is telling you—so you can make real, physical change.

If you’re setting goals for the year, make sure your body is on that list. This is an investment. 🖤

Remember that you belong on the list of things to take care of this week —
in fact, you should be top priority ✨

The week between Christmas and New Year’s can feel jumbled and exhausting.
Routines are off, energy is low, and your body is often holding onto more than usual.

But it can also be a reset.
A pause.
A chance to do things for yourself without pressure.

I’ll be in the clinic this week, and if you’re unable to get an appointment, there are still many ways to support your body on your own:

🤍 gentle stretching
🏋️‍♀️ movement that feels good
🧘‍♀️ mobility + breathing
🚶‍♀️ walking
💤 rest — without guilt

No need to fix everything.
Just take care of what’s asking for attention.

You’re allowed to move into the new year feeling supported — by others and by yourself ✨

🎄 Merry Christmas Eve, Eve 🎄

Off for a few days and starting holiday traditions — slowing down, soaking it all in, and spending this time with my favourite little humans.

As we head into the holidays, I just want to say thank you. To my incredible patients and colleagues: your trust, support, and kindness over the past three years have allowed me to build a career I truly love — and to genuinely look forward to going to work every single day. That is something I never take for granted.

I will be out of the clinic until Monday, December 29th, taking some time to rest, reset, and be present with my family.

Wishing everyone who celebrates a peaceful, restful, and joy-filled holiday season. 🤍✨

Thank you for being here — I’m so grateful for each of you.

✨ No-Show Policy Reminder ✨

I understand that life happens and circumstances can be out of our control — truly.
However, I expect notice if you’re unable to attend your appointment.

My time is valuable, and I ask that it’s respected just as I respect each of my patients.
I have a list of patients waiting for treatment, and timely cancellations allow me to offer those openings to someone who could really benefit from being treated sooner.

Please remember: a full treatment fee is charged for any no-shows

Thank you for your understanding, communication, and respect. It genuinely helps keep my practice running smoothly for everyone. 💛

✨ Re-Introducing Your RMT ✨

Hi — I’m Taylor.
RMT, mom to four humans, two cats, a dog, and a horse 🐎 (yes, I still find time to ride… somehow).

Before massage therapy, I worked in behaviour services supporting adults with autism — a role that shaped how I practice today: with patience, clear communication, and meeting people exactly where they’re at.

I’m in the gym five days a week 💪 because I believe you can’t preach strength and movement without living it.
A strong therapist = better care.

Over time, I’ve found my niche: TMJD and neck-specific treatment. I’ve completed continuing education in TMJD and love learning just as much as educating — knowledge is one of my favourite tools 🧠

I work out of Shelburne Physiotherapy Centre, where collaborative care is a priority. Working closely with physiotherapists allows for a more connected, well-rounded approach to your treatment.

✨ When you book with me, you can expect:
• intentional, focused care
• goals at the centre of every plan
• clear communication
• evidence-based treatment, tailored to you

Fun fact: Even though my job involves hands-on work, I’m big on personal space 🙃 I’m not much of a hugger outside the treatment room — therapeutic touch is my zone.

Did you know we have our own elf at SPC?! His name is PT Pete — and apparently he’s very serious about self-care. Caught him on the table today getting ready for his massage! Keep an eye out for him getting into mischief next time you’re at the clinic 😉✨

Hello December ❄️

The final month of the year is here—a perfect time to reassess movement patterns and reduce pain before January ramps up.

Intentional, goal-oriented treatment now can make a measurable difference in how you feel heading into the new year.
Your goals, your pace—I’m here to help you get there.

✨ What’s one area of your body you want to focus on before the year ends?

And to all the parents diving into Elf on the Shelf season… just know I’m right there with you — sneaking around at 11pm and pretending it’s fun. 🫡🧝‍♂️

✨ Why I Don’t Use the 1–10 Pain Scale ✨

Because your “8” might be someone else’s “4” — and numbers don’t tell me what really matters.
I’d rather know if you can put on your socks, sit through a meeting, drive without wincing, or pick up your kid without bracing.

Functional info > pain scores.
That’s how I build meaningful, personalized treatment plans that actually support your goals — not just the numbers.

➡️ Tell me what your pain is stopping you from doing.
That’s where the real progress starts.
