In the quiet of the forest,
she is not asking the world to change.
She is simply facing herself.

The wolf howls beneath the moon
not to call the pack,
but to remember:
no matter how long the silence lasts, the soul still needs to be heard.

Life doesn’t always demand immediate answers.
Sometimes, the only thing you need
is to pause, breathe slowly,
and trust that peace does not come from controlling everything,
but from accepting where you are.

When you become still,
the path reveals itself.
And when you become honest,
the soul knows the way.

The Bear Who Sits with the Sun

He does not chase the day
as it lowers itself into the hills.
He sits,
and lets the light finish speaking.

The tree behind him
remembers his weight,
its roots tangled with stories
older than fire.

The Bear listens
to what the sunset leaves behind—
not color,
but meaning.

His stillness is not weariness.
It is knowing
when enough has been said.

The forest gathers quietly,
learning how to rest
without forgetting
its strength.

When the sun finally closes its eye,
the Bear remains,
holding the warmth
for those who will walk here later.

And the ancestors speak in the fading gold:

Wisdom is not found in movement alone,
but in the courage to pause,
and carry the day gently into night.

Happy 125th birthday to Hawayo Takata! 🎂

This photo was taken at the Trinity Metaphysical Center, Redwood City, California, in December 1979 to celebrate Takata's 79th birthday. About two weeks earlier, she had recorded a series of tapes meant to be the basis of her autobiography. They begin:

"Well, I was born in Hanamaulu, Hawaii, on December 24, 1900. And when I was born, there were no doctors, so all these immigrants who came from Japan in the [1800s] had midwives. [...] [My mother] asked the midwife, 'What time is it?' and the midwife said, 'The sun is just coming out over the hills.' And my mother asked the midwife, 'Is it a boy or a girl?' and the midwife said, 'It is a little baby girl, black hair, and very, very strong child.'

So my mother said, 'Please give her a bath, wrap her in a new blanket, and face her [towards] the sun. And I want you to initiate her by putting your hand on top of her head and say, 'I name you Hawayo.' And say it three times.' And after that she said, 'Success, success, and success.' So the midwife did exactly as she was told."
