A Little Book About You:
Trauma, Triggers, and Taking Your Life Back

About Greatlife Psychology Centre Inc.

Greatlife Psychology Centre Inc. is a multidisciplinary mental health practice committed to providing evidence-based, trauma-informed psychological care to individuals navigating complex mental health challenges. The Centre has a particular focus on supporting veterans, first responders, and individuals exposed to prolonged, high-risk, or high-responsibility environments, where chronic stress, trauma, and moral injury are common.

Our work is grounded in the understanding that trauma-related difficulties are not personal failures, but predictable nervous system responses shaped by experience, responsibility, and exposure to threat. Treatment is approached with respect, clinical rigor, and an emphasis on restoring dignity, functioning, and meaning.

A Multidisciplinary, Veteran-Informed Team

Greatlife Psychology Centre Inc. is home to a diverse team of registered psychologists, registered clinical counsellors, and allied mental health professionals, each bringing specialized training and clinical experience. Our clinicians work collaboratively to ensure care is tailored, comprehensive, and responsive to the unique needs of each client.

Many members of our team have extensive experience working with:

Veterans and military members

First responders (including police, fire, paramedics, and emergency personnel)

Individuals living with PTSD, complex trauma, and moral injury

Clients managing the intersection of psychological injury, physical injury, and vocational disruption

Clinical Approach and Therapeutic Frameworks

Care at Greatlife Psychology Centre Inc. is rooted in evidence-based practice, integrating well-established psychological models and contemporary trauma research. Therapeutic approaches commonly include:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Trauma-informed care

Emotion regulation and distress tolerance strategies

Values-based and meaning-focused interventions

Our clinicians are informed by the work of leading trauma researchers and clinicians, including Judith Herman, Bessel van der Kolk, Edna Foa, Stephen Porges, Marsha Linehan, Jonathan Shay, and Brett Litz, while maintaining flexibility to meet clients where they are in their recovery.

Understanding the Veteran and First Responder Experience

We recognize that veterans and first responders often face unique psychological challenges, including:

Chronic hypervigilance and threat sensitivity

Avoidance and emotional withdrawal

Anger, irritability, and frustration

Depression, numbness, and loss of meaning

Moral injury related to values, responsibility, and betrayal

Treatment is delivered with an appreciation for operational culture, identity transitions, and the cumulative impact of service-related stressors. Our clinicians strive to create a therapeutic environment that balances clinical structure with respect, clarity, and collaboration.

Beyond Symptom Management

At Greatlife Psychology Centre Inc., therapy is not limited to symptom reduction alone. Our work also focuses on:

Restoring emotional regulation and nervous system balance

Supporting healthy relationships and communication

Addressing identity disruption and moral injury

Facilitating vocational readiness and life transitions

Helping clients reconnect with purpose, values, and long-term goals

We view recovery as a process of rebuilding a meaningful life, not simply managing distress.

Commitment to Ethical, Client-Centred Care

Greatlife Psychology Centre Inc. is committed to:

Ethical and professional standards of practice

Ongoing clinical education and development

Collaboration with medical, vocational, and rehabilitation providers

Providing care that is respectful, transparent, and client-centred

Our clinicians understand the importance of trust, consistency, and pacing—particularly when working with trauma-exposed populations.

A Collaborative Partner in Recovery

Whether supporting clients through active treatment, vocational rehabilitation, or long-term maintenance, Greatlife Psychology Centre Inc. aims to be a reliable, knowledgeable, and compassionate partner in recovery.

We believe that with appropriate support, understanding, and evidence-based care, individuals affected by trauma can move beyond survival mode and build lives defined not by injury, but by choice, connection, and meaning.

THREE GREAT WORKBOOKS
A Little Book About You - Relationship Reset
To every couple who chooses growth over comfort and hope over fear —
This book is for you. For the two of you who, despite exhaustion or disappointment, keep showing up. For the partners who have every reason to quit but still choose to lean in.

A Little Book About You - Thought Life
For as long as I’ve been working with people—listening to their stories, struggles, and hopes—one truth has stood out above all the rest: our thought life matters.

A Little Book About You – Don’t Buy the Lie
For years, psychology has demonstrated how thoughts influence emotions and behavior. The Cognitive Model, pioneered by Aaron Beck, explains that negative automatic thoughts—quick, biased mental messages—can shape how we feel about ourselves and our world.

Don't buy the lie. The negative self-talk. The negative story about how you are no good for nothing and will never amount to anything in this life... it's all a lie. Don't buy the lie."
