Stress is not just “being busy.” It’s your body and brain staying in go-mode for too long, without enough rest, support, or breathing room. 🌬️

Counselling can help you slow it all down and figure out what is actually driving your stress, then build a realistic plan that fits your life. Not a perfect routine, just small changes that help your nervous system feel safer, steadier, and less on edge.

If stress has been feeling heavy, book a session and let’s build your toolkit together. Visit our website to get started. 🤎

The Gottman Method is a research-based approach to couples therapy that helps you understand what is happening beneath the argument. Not just what was said, but how conflict starts, what escalates it, and what helps you both feel safe enough to reconnect. 🫀

It’s practical and skill-focused. You learn tools you can use in real moments, especially when emotions are high, so you can move from repeating patterns to stronger repairs, deeper connection, and more trust over time.

At Onyx, we have multiple Gottman certified therapists on our team. If this method feels like something you’d like to explore, consider connecting with one of them.

If you’ve ever found yourself Googling questions about therapy at midnight, you’re not alone. 👀

A lot of people want support, but still wonder things like: Do I really need therapy? What happens in the first session? What if it’s awkward? What if I don’t know what to say? Is this even confidential? What if my therapist isn’t the right fit?

Those questions are not signs you’re overthinking. They’re signs you’re trying to feel safe before stepping into something new.

Therapy is not about having the perfect words. You can show up unsure, nervous, skeptical, or completely new to it. The first session is often just a starting point, getting oriented, talking through what brought you in, and figuring out what kind of support would feel most helpful. Over time, therapy becomes a space to understand yourself more clearly, build tools, and make life feel more manageable.

And yes, fit matters. You’re allowed to ask questions, give feedback, and choose someone who feels right for you.

So if you’ve been searching for answers, here’s a gentle suggestion for your final search result: reach out. We’re here when you’re ready.

Grief and mourning often get used interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same thing. 🙅‍♀️

Grief is the inside part.
It is the internal experience of loss, the feelings, the thoughts, the waves that come and go, even when life on the outside looks “normal.”

Mourning is the outside part.
It is how we express grief outwardly through rituals, actions, and meaning-making, like sharing stories, attending a service, creating a memory ritual, visiting a place, writing a letter, wearing something meaningful, or simply letting yourself be witnessed.

There is no right way to do either. Your grief can be quiet or loud. Your mourning can look traditional, personal, or completely unique to you.

If you are navigating loss and want support that feels steady and compassionate, consider booking a session with Lori-Ann through the link in our bio. 🌿

Pink Shirt Day matters a lot to all of us at Onyx.

Bullying is never okay. Not when it’s obvious and loud, and not when it’s quiet, persistent, and happens in ways adults do not always see. It can show up at school, in sports, online, in group chats, and even within friendships. And the impact is real. Bullying can shape how someone sees themselves, how safe they feel in the world, and how willing they are to speak up when something hurts.

We take this day seriously because we have seen how deeply bullying can affect young people. Many of the youth we support are carrying more than people realize, anxiety, low confidence, isolation, shame, and a constant feeling of being “on edge.” Sometimes it is not just one incident. It is repeated experiences that slowly chip away at a sense of belonging.

Pink Shirt Day is a reminder that kindness is not just a nice idea, it is protection. It is safety. It is community. It is choosing to notice who is being left out, who is being targeted, and who is going quiet.

If you are a parent, caregiver, or trusted adult, this is your reminder to check in gently. Not just “How was school?” but “Who did you sit with today?” “Did anything feel hard?” “Is anyone being unkind to you, online or in person?” If you are a young person reading this, you deserve to feel safe. You deserve respect. You deserve support.

And if bullying has impacted you or your child, you do not have to navigate it alone. Support is here when you are ready.

Today, we wear pink to stand for safety, respect, and belonging. 🩷

Anxiety can be loud, exhausting, and incredibly convincing. It can make the world feel smaller, keep you on high alert, and pull you into loops of overthinking, avoiding, or constantly trying to prevent the worst-case scenario.

The good news is that anxiety is treatable, and there are multiple evidence-based ways to approach it.

For some people, structured skill-building is a game changer, learning how anxious thinking works, how to respond differently, and how to practice new patterns in real life. For others, the biggest shift comes from gently reducing avoidance, building confidence through gradual steps, and learning that discomfort is survivable. And for many, nervous-system support and mindfulness-based skills help them stop battling anxiety all day long and start feeling more grounded again.

Medication can also be part of the plan for some people, especially when anxiety is intense or persistent. There isn’t one “right” route, and you don’t need to choose the most extreme option. You need the option that fits your symptoms, your life, and your goals.

If anxiety has been running the show for you lately, you don’t have to figure out the solution alone. Support can be practical, personalized, and hopeful.

Let’s clear up a few common misconceptions about coaching.

Carleen is a Positive Psychology Coach, which means her work is centred on you, your goals, and what matters most in your life.

Coaching is not about someone handing you a one-size-fits-all plan or telling you how to live. It’s a collaborative space where you stay in the driver’s seat, and Carleen helps you build clarity, confidence, and momentum at a pace that fits you.

If you’ve been curious about coaching but weren’t sure what to expect, this one’s for you. 🌿

EMDR can sound mysterious if you’ve never experienced it, so we love breaking it down into something more understandable.

One of the most reassuring parts of EMDR is that it follows a clear structure. It’s not about jumping straight into the hardest memories on day one. The process begins with learning your story, building safety, and making sure you have tools to feel grounded, supported, and prepared.

Only once that foundation is in place does reprocessing begin. That’s where bilateral stimulation (like eye movements, taps, or tones) is used while you focus on a target memory, helping your brain process it differently over time. It’s common for people to notice the memory feels less charged, less “stuck,” or less able to hijack their nervous system.

And the last phases matter just as much as the middle. Closure is built in so sessions end with steadiness, not overwhelm. Re-evaluation helps you track progress and decide what makes sense next.

If you’ve been curious about EMDR, this is your reminder that it’s a paced, supported process, not a push-you-too-fast experience.

If you’d like to explore whether EMDR could be a fit, we’re here! 🤗
