In celebration of the anniversary of the legalization of medical cannabis in Canada on July 30th, Canada House is holding a giveaway in the month of July!

Entering the draw is easy – if you’re a resident of Canada (excluding Québec), and above your province’s minimum age for cannabis use, all you need to do is like and publicly share this or our previous 7/30 giveaway post for a chance to win. Liking and sharing in any combination between our two posts will count for an entry, but each person can only enter once! Entries will close tomorrow night, the 29th of July, at midnight, and we’ll contact the winner on 7/30 so watch for a message from us in your inbox or message requests to see if you've won!

This year, Canada House is giving away a PAX PLUS vaporizer; it comes ready to use for live flower vaporizing, but can also be easily adapted for use with concentrates using accessories that are available on PAX's website.

Canada House will never ask for payment to claim a giveaway you’ve won. We may, however, ask for contact and/or shipping details.

New Team Lead Highlight – Monica (Hamilton, ON)
As we continue our Team Lead Spotlight series leading up to Walk Weekend – September 20 & 21, we’re thrilled to introduce Monica, who is launching Hamilton’s first-ever Canadian Walk for Veterans!
What Monica Wishes More Canadians Knew:
"The impact of CAF service. The types of people who join. The everyday sacrifices members make so civilians can enjoy life in Canada."
Her Connection to the CAF:
Service runs deep in Monica’s family—her paternal grandparents served in WWII in the British Army and Fire Brigade. Her grandfather deployed with the 5 Infantry Brigade to Burma and Nagasaki, while her grandmother served on the home front.
Monica herself has spent 14 years working with DND and Veterans Affairs, including 8 years in the OTSSC clinic in Edmonton, and now supports military and Veteran families through her private practice in Hamilton, ON.
This Year’s Wish List:
“To have 100 people attend the inaugural walk in Hamilton!”
What She’s Learned So Far:
“How many military connections there are in Hamilton—cadet groups, legions, reserve units, museums, even monuments. It’s surprising this is the first walk here!”
Let’s help Monica make Hamilton’s first walk a powerful success!

Meet Your Team Lead: Ty Kushnir – Spruce Grove, AB
As part of our series, we’re spotlighting the passionate volunteers behind each local walk. Today, we’re proud to introduce Ty Kushnir, Team Lead for Spruce Grove, Alberta.

"Start with heart."
That’s Ty’s advice for anyone thinking about organizing a Walk. “Build a strong local team, reach out to your community, and keep the focus on the purpose—supporting our Veterans. People want to help; they just need someone to bring them together.”

Why it matters to Ty:
As a military family—his wife is a serving Reserve Officer—supporting Veterans is personal. “Organizing the Walk is one way I give back to the community that gives us so much.”

What he wishes more Canadians knew:
“That the transition to civilian life isn’t always smooth. Veterans carry invisible wounds, but they also bring incredible leadership, resilience, and a continued commitment to serve—even after the uniform comes off.”

On his wish list this year:
• More intergenerational involvement—cadets walking alongside Veterans, families walking together
• More food donations for the Veterans Association Food Bank
• A big turnout and heartfelt “thank yous” to those who served

Top tip for new Team Leads:
“People want to help—they're just waiting for someone to lead. Don’t be afraid to ask for support. Build a team, trust their strengths, and always keep the mission front and center.”

Thank you, Ty, for your leadership and heart. We can’t wait to see Spruce Grove walk with pride this September!

Team Lead Highlight – Andrea (Kingston, ON)
As we spotlight incredible Walk Leads across the country, meet Andrea, returning Co-Lead for Kingston and passionate advocate for military families and community connection.
Advice for New Team Leads:
“Start small and build from there. You’ll learn what works and what doesn’t. Most importantly—make it a team effort. It’s all about community building and connection. The funds are a bonus, but the impact? Totally worth it.”
What Andrea Wishes More Canadians Knew:
“That military life is more complex than it appears. The sacrifice, the constant change—it leaves marks. Some are beautiful. Many are traumatic. And those marks don’t just disappear when someone becomes a Veteran.”
Her Military Connection:
Andrea’s grandfather served as a medic in WWII, and his legacy lives on through her son’s admiration for his gear. Some of Andrea’s closest friends are military families—she’s witnessed firsthand the upheaval and resilience that come with answering the call to serve.
This Year’s Wish List:
“That the sun shines, everyone has a wonderful time, and that this amazing community continues to grow.”
Thank you, Andrea, for helping lead the charge in Kingston!

Meet Matt Kane – Advisory Committee Member
This week we’re kicking off our Spotlight series as we follow incredible Walk volunteers from across the country who are gearing up for Walk Weekend – September 20 & 21!
This week we're honoured to feature Matt Kane, a sixth-generation military Veteran and one of the visionaries behind the very first Walk.
"Start small. Build strong. Grow steadily."
Matt and fellow co-founder Marc Burchel launched the first Walk with a single-city goal of 100 participants. Today, the Canadian Walk for Veterans stretches coast to coast.
Matt’s advice to new Team Leads:
“Lay a solid foundation. Build a team of passionate volunteers. Focus on community awareness—and know that growth takes time. What matters most is staying true to the purpose: supporting Veterans and their families.”
What more Canadians should know:
• The instability military families face with frequent postings
• Modern-day Veterans often lack the benefits people assume they receive
• A reminder that Veterans don’t all wear grey hair—they’re of all ages, from many missions
A personal moment:
“When I took my car in with a Veterans plate, the mechanic assumed it was my grandfather’s. I had just returned from overseas. Veterans are not just the faces of history—they’re also the faces of today.”
Military runs deep:
Matt comes from a long line of service dating back to the First World War. “I’m proud to be sixth-generation CAF. Growing up around uniforms, I always knew I wanted to serve.”
Wish list for this year’s Walk:
• Consistent, steady growth
• Deeper community engagement
• More residents walking alongside the military and Veteran community
Matt has been with the Walk since day one—helping grow it from a single-city event to a national movement. His mission remains unchanged: bring awareness, honour service, and build community.
