Food is a central part of many holiday gatherings and traditions; it brings us happiness and comfort, and most importantly, it brings us together.

However, events centered around food may also bring feelings of guilt. Here are some strategies that may help you focus on joy and connection instead of unwanted emotions when gathering with your loved ones this holiday season.

🍴Slow down and take the time to enjoy your food.

🍴 Listen to your body and notice your hunger and fullness cues.

🍴 Instead of making rules about foods you can or cannot have, give yourself permission to enjoy smaller portions and give yourself time to savour each bite.

When required, a registered dietitian can help you learn about these strategies and implement them in a way that fits your lifestyle and health goals. Meeting with a PCN dietitian is free of charge with a referral from your primary care provider. To learn more or explore our free workshops visit: www.sherwoodparkpcn.com

🎃 When the tricks of Halloween fade, there's a treat on the other side: an extra hour of sleep!

Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday, November 2.

If time changes usually throw you off, try these tips to help you adjust:

💤 adopt a calming ritual before bed and limit screen time
💤 ease in by gradually shifting your sleep schedule
💤 if you need to take a nap, keep it short and sweet
💤 spend time outdoors to enjoy natural light
💤 keep a consistent exercise routine
💤 skip caffeine when it gets close to bedtime

If you typically have trouble falling asleep, talk to your primary care provider.
