Does the lack of sunlight get you down this time of year? Youโre definitely not alone. ๐ฅ๏ธ
As the days get shorter and the evenings darker, many people โ myself included โ start to feel that shift in energy. Lately, Iโve had patients tell me that between the chilly weather, gray skies, and earlier sunsets, itโs been harder to stay motivated or find energy during the day.
And you know what? It makes sense. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is real. When thereโs less sunlight, our serotonin (the feel-good hormone) drops while melatonin (the sleep hormone) increases. No wonder we feel more sluggish and crave comfort.
A few simple things can help:
โข Get outside for a short walk โ daylight and movement boost energy.
โข Try a sunrise alarm clock or a full-spectrum light.
โข Use red light therapy for 5โ10 minutes a day to help regulate rhythm.
โข Keep your vitamin D levels up.
โข Acupuncture can help restore calm and balance.
However you spend your extra hour this weekend โ sleeping in, walking outside, or curled up with a blanket โ be kind to yourself. I know Iโll be using that hour to rest and recharge a little more. ๐
