We are heartbroken by the tragic shooting in Tumbler Ridge.

Our thoughts are with the families grieving the loss of loved ones, those who are injured, and the entire community carrying the far-reaching impact of this violence. We are deeply grateful to the first responders and health care teams caring for victims and families.

For those on the Saanich Peninsula and in Greater Victoria, support is available:
• 9-8-8 (call or text, 24/7)
• Vancouver Island Crisis Line: 1-888-494-3888
• VictimLink BC: 1-800-563-0808
• BC211: Call 2-1-1 or visit bc211.ca
• Saanich Peninsula Youth Clinic: Open to all local youth – shorelinemedical.ca/youth-clinic

Shoreline patients can also contact their clinic for access to mental health and social work supports.

With care,
Shoreline

Saje joined Shoreline as a Medical Office Assistant knowing health care is, at its core, about caring for people. Shoreline’s supportive, team-based culture helped her grow and discover a passion for maternity care.

Now training as a midwife in northern BC, Saje is seeing firsthand why growing and training care providers locally matters. We’re cheering her on every step of the way, and can’t wait to welcome her home 💙👏

🍪 Cookies for a Cause 💙

Lucia White has been baking up a storm this winter in support of Shoreline Medical Society, and we are so grateful.

Each month, Lucia creates a new homemade cookie, available for purchase at Janet’s Special Teas in Sidney, with proceeds supporting primary care on the Saanich Peninsula. Thanks to this delicious initiative, she’s already raised over $1,600 for Shoreline!

This month, Lucia has also put together a beautiful Valentine’s gift basket, with raffle tickets available at Janet’s for $5.

If you’re in Sidney, stop by, treat yourself (or someone you love), and support local care while you’re at it. 💕

Thank you, Lucia, and thank you to Janet’s Special Teas for hosting this fundraiser; community support like this truly makes a difference.

We’re so excited to start welcoming patients to our new family exam room 💫

Designed to help kids feel safe and calm through everyday visits and tougher moments alike, this room helps reduce anxiety, keeps kinds engaged, and supports meaningful parent-provider conversations.

Together, we’re building spaces like this and growing care for more families.

Yesterday, members of the Shoreline board and leadership team spent the day at the ’s Governance 101 training. We’re proud of the strong, experienced board that guides our work, and we also believe there’s always more to learn. Taking time to sharpen our governance skills helps ensure we stay accountable, make thoughtful decisions, and keep building a high-performing organization ready to meet the needs of our community.

Even better, we made new connections that gave us fresh insight into community needs and sparked ideas for future partnerships and collaborations. Truly the best kind of day. Thank you for a great day of learning together 💙

Wishing our patients and community a happy and healthy New Year. Thank you for trusting us with your care.

As the year comes to a close, we want thank you — our patients, donors, and community for your generous support this year. In 2025, we made meaningful progress towards our mission of delivering high quality primary care that meets the evolving needs of our community and strengthens the local health system. We added two new full-time primary care providers and eight locum physicians. Together, we now care for nearly 16,000 patients and are actively adding more from the province’s Health Connect Registry. Outside our clinics, Shoreline physicians provided maternity, palliative, and long-term care to the broader community.

Family physicians play an essential role at Saanich Peninsula Hospital; the hospital cannot function without their participation. This year Dr. Bourdon continued to serve as President of the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Medical Staff Association, and Shoreline physicians provided significant hospital coverage, surgical assists, and rapid assessments in the emergency department — contributions that are critical to the hospital’s long-term viability and success.

Our Youth Clinic, which is funded almost entirely by donations and grants, remains a critical service for the region. In 2024 we provided more than 550 medical and counselling appointments to youth but were unable to accommodate more than 250 same-week appointment requests. This year we added an additional counsellor, but demand for services continued to outstrip our capacity and we are ever mindful of both the need and urgency to grow.

This year we worked hard to build community, connection and belonging. We came together for a community mini-golf tournament, celebratory BBQ, physician-led walk, and at Glow Together, our inaugural winter light up event in Centennial Park. We also launched social media accounts and a quarterly newsletter to share updates and insights more regularly with our patients, community and partners.

While we made great strides in 2025, we know there is more work to do. In October, Shoreline published Charting Our Path: Shoreline’s 2025–2028 Strategic Plan, which sets out our shared vision for strengthening primary care on the Saanich Peninsula. A key action is exploring the potential for a third clinic, and this work is now well underway.

Your support has been instrumental in our recent progress and remains critical to the work ahead. If you have donated this year already, our deepest thanks. If you haven’t, but are able, we hope you will consider making a year end donation – there are still a few days left to get a 2025 tax receipt! Donations can be made online at shorelinemedical.ca/donate, in clinic, or by phoning Sarah, our Director of Development at 250-889-1346.

Wishing you a warm and restful winter season.

Health care is busy, complex, and deeply human work.

In the daily mix, it’s easy to forget to stop and acknowledge the people beside us who make it possible. But not at Shoreline!

Today, our physicians treated the Sidney clinic team to pizza as a small thank-you. To our clinic staff: your skill, compassion, and teamwork don’t go unnoticed. We’re grateful for you. 🍕

Are you on the list?

If you live on the Saanich Peninsula and do not currently have a family doctor or nurse practitioner, we encourage you to register with the BC Health Connect Registry.

Registering is the fastest and most effective way to be matched with a primary care provider when capacity becomes available. It also helps ensure that individuals with the greatest health needs are prioritized for attachment.

The registry plays an important role in health system planning, helping local clinics and partners better understand community need and build capacity to match it. Shoreline Medical Society is accepting patients through the registry.

It’s Midwife Monday!

Meet Michele Buchman, Shoreline’s Registered Midwife. Practicing since 1998, Michele works closely with Dr. Molly Forrester and our maternity team to support families in the early days after birth.

She provides postpartum visits right in the home, checking on mom and baby, removing sutures or steri-strips, supporting breastfeeding, answering questions, and prescribing treatments when needed. Michele stays connected through text and offers calm, practical guidance between visits.

She brings warmth, experience, and reassurance to every family she cares for, and both our team and her patients are deeply grateful for her.
