We are really honoured to share that Norfolk County Counselling and Psychotherapy has been selected as a 2026 Canadian Choice Award winner in the Mental Health Clinics category.

As a flagship rural clinic, this recognition matters to us. It reflects the trust our community places in accessible, ethical mental health care close to home and the steady, thoughtful work our team brings into the room every day.

To our clinicians, admin team, referral partners, and to the individuals and families across Norfolk County and surrounding rural communities who choose to work with us, thank you. We do not take that trust lightly.

Disclaimer:
This recognition reflects business excellence and community impact. It does not imply clinical superiority or guarantee therapeutic outcomes. Psychotherapy services are provided by regulated health professionals in accordance with Ontario standards of practice.

When people use the phrase toxic relationship, they are often trying to name a feeling that has been building for a long time.

Not one argument.
Not one hard season.
Not one mistake.

A pattern.

A pattern of feeling smaller instead of supported.
A pattern of feeling anxious, confused, or emotionally on edge.
A pattern of questioning yourself more than the relationship itself.

Toxic does not always look dramatic or obvious.
Sometimes it is quiet. Sometimes it is subtle. Sometimes it shows up as chronic tension, emotional distance, or the slow erosion of trust and safety.

And sometimes there is no villain.

Two people can care deeply about each other and still be unhealthy together. Two people can be trying their best and still create a dynamic that feels unsafe or unsustainable over time.

This kind of language is not about blame. It is about clarity.

If this post resonates, notice what comes up for you. Notice how your body responds. Notice the stories you tell yourself about what is “normal” or what you should tolerate.

Awareness often comes before change.

This post is for education and reflection only. It is not therapy or clinical advice.

Finding the right therapist matters.

To support better fit and more focused care, we have organized our services into clinical teams based on the populations we serve.

This means:
• Clearer pathways to care
• Thoughtful matching from the start
• Support that reflects your stage of life and needs

We are here to help, and we want you to feel better.

Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing more about each of our clinical teams so you can better understand the care options available to you.

If you are not sure where to begin, our intake team is here to help guide you.

WELCOME! 🎉

Starting Next Week

Cierra Bailey, B.A., B.Ed., RP (Qualifying)
Student Intern

Cierra is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and Student Intern completing her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology.

Cierra’s work focuses largely on perinatal mental health, parenting, and early family life. She supports individuals and families across the reproductive and parenting journey, including pregnancy, postpartum, fertility challenges, loss and grief, and the emotional transitions that often accompany parenthood.

Cierra will work closely with Avril Ferguson, MA, RP, Founder and Clinical Director, and will receive specialized training and supervision with a focus on perinatal and parenting-related care.

As a student intern, Cierra is able to offer therapy at a reduced rate, making care more accessible while still being closely supervised and thoughtfully supported within our clinic. Reduced-rate spaces are available!

We want to share a quick update with our community.

Starting January 1, 2026, session rates for new clients will increase by $10.

If you book an appointment in 2025, even if the appointment itself is in 2026, you will be considered a current client as of January 1 and your current rate will remain in place until March 1, 2026.

For all current clients, updated rates will take effect March 1, following the required notice period.

Reduced rate options will remain unchanged. We continue to offer reduced and pro bono sessions through our student and intern clinicians as part of our commitment to accessible care.

We know changes like this can bring up questions. Our admin team is always happy to help.

Thank you for being here and for trusting us with your care.

Perinatal mental health is not a niche topic. It is a public health priority that shapes prevention, resilience, and lifelong wellbeing for families and communities.

At GXC Online 2025: Mental Health Without Borders, I will be speaking on “Perinatal Mental Health, The Most Urgent Public Health Priority You Are Not Talking About,” with a focus on practical, system aware strategies you can bring into your own setting.

If you are a therapist, educator, health provider, or advocate who works with parents, babies, or families at any point along the perinatal journey, I would love to see you there.

An evening rooted in purpose, community, and women supporting women.

So proud to stand behind Haldimand-Norfolk Women’s Services — an organization that continues to do such vital work in our community.

Their cause is one we believe in deeply, and it was an honour for Norfolk County Counselling to be part of an evening that uplifts and empowers local women.

We are especially grateful to the incredible women who joined our table — old friends, new friends, and some of the biggest supporters of this work and of each other. Your presence, laughter, and solidarity mean so much.

And a huge thank-you to Devlin’s for the amazing food — as always, absolutely perfect.

If you haven’t yet, please take a moment to check out and support these amazing local businesses and organizations doing good work right here in Haldimand-Norfolk:

Hi Mental Health Providers!

I’m opening up a Psychodynamic & Relational Group Supervision series this fall, and I’d love to invite you to join. 🌿

🕰 When:
Monthly on Fridays, 12:15 – 2:15 PM (Virtual)
October 17
November 28
December 19
💰 Investment: $300 total for 3 sessions (6 hours) ($100 per group)
✔ Meets CRPO supervision requirements
✔ Maximum 8 participants for a supportive, collaborative space
Why choose this group?

✨ My approach to supervision is grounded in a psychodynamic & relational lens — meaning we go beyond techniques to really reflect on the deeper dynamics of the work, and your own experience as a therapist.

✨ I bring my experience as a Registered Psychotherapist, Clinical Supervisor, and educator, with years of mentoring placement students and supporting new grads.

✨ My teaching background (Laurier Continuing Education, perinatal mental health, supervision groups) helps me create a space that is structured, reflective, and empowering — while always being supportive and down-to-earth.

If you’re an RP, RP(Q), MSW, or new grad looking for a place to grow in confidence and deepen your practice, this group could be a wonderful fit. 🌱

📩 Send me an email to register — spaces are limited (max 8 participants).

After months (and months!) of dreaming, planning, and late-night logistics… we’re expanding again 💛

We now have 7 beautiful therapy rooms at Norfolk County Counselling, we’ve officially launched our sister clinic Northwell Counselling to serve Northern and remote communities, AND we’re in the process of adding a Nurse Practitioner to our team 🩺

This growth means more support, more access, and more ways to meet you and your family where you’re at — with care that’s rooted right here in Norfolk.

We love this community, and we’re so proud to keep showing up for it.
