DID YOU KNOW… 🤔

Working with a clinical intern can be a great way to access thoughtful, supportive therapy.

Clinical interns are graduate students in counselling, psychotherapy, or social work who are completing the final stage of their professional training. They work directly with clients while receiving close supervision from an experienced registered clinician. This means your care is supported both in session and through ongoing clinical guidance behind the scenes.

Intern therapists support clients with many of the same concerns seen in any counselling practice, including:

• Anxiety and stress
• Depression and low mood
• Relationship challenges
• Parenting stress
• Life transitions
• Grief and loss
• Self esteem and identity questions
• Burnout and overwhelm

Many people find interns bring a lot of care, attention, and curiosity to their work. Sessions are thoughtful, reflective, and well supported through supervision.

Another benefit is accessibility. Intern sessions are typically offered at a lower fee, or probono, which can make therapy more financially accessible.

Working with an intern is not a lesser option. It is simply another way to access meaningful, supported care.

Did you know we have a highly trained Fertility, Perinatal & Parenting Clinical Team?

We support individuals and families through fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, and the parenting years with care that is grounded, specialized, and relational.

In person right here in Norfolk County, virtually across Ontario✨

Our team includes Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychotherapists, and carefully supervised clinical interns. Many of our clinicians have completed advanced training through organizations such as Postpartum Support International and the Canadian Perinatal Mental Health Trainings.

Avril also teaches perinatal mental health in the Continuing Education program at Wilfrid Laurier University. That depth of expertise flows directly into our clinical work, and into the supervision and consultation provided across our team.

We believe access matters. Reduced rate and limited pro bono care options are available. If cost is a barrier, please just ask.

Behind the scenes, keeping everything moving, holding a lot of threads with care and consistency. That is Hannah.

Hannah is often the first voice people hear and the steady presence that keeps our clinic running smoothly day to day. She supports clients, therapists, systems, schedules, and the thousand small details that make ethical, relational care possible. A lot of what works well here works well because of her.

She is also a fourth year BSW student, bringing a strong social work lens, curiosity, and thoughtfulness into everything she does. She understands that client care is not just about what happens in the therapy room, but about how people are welcomed, supported, and respected at every point of contact.

We are deeply grateful for the care, competence, and commitment Hannah brings to this space. Our work would not look the same without her, and we are lucky to have her as such an integral part of our clinic.

Honoured to be teaching with the Laurier University Faculty of Social Work in the Women’s Mental Health Certificate Program.

Tomorrow, Friday January 23, Avril will be teaching in the Women’s Mental Health Certificate Program through Laurier University Continuing Education.

This course focuses on rural women’s mental health through a clinical, systems-informed lens. We will be exploring access, isolation, caregiving load, identity, and resilience in rural and small-community contexts, grounded in evidence-based practice and real-world clinical experience.

Grateful to contribute to continuing education that supports thoughtful, ethical, and sustainable mental health care for women across Ontario, Canada and beyond.

When people use the phrase toxic relationship, they are often trying to name a feeling that has been building for a long time.

Not one argument.
Not one hard season.
Not one mistake.

A pattern.

A pattern of feeling smaller instead of supported.
A pattern of feeling anxious, confused, or emotionally on edge.
A pattern of questioning yourself more than the relationship itself.

Toxic does not always look dramatic or obvious.
Sometimes it is quiet. Sometimes it is subtle. Sometimes it shows up as chronic tension, emotional distance, or the slow erosion of trust and safety.

And sometimes there is no villain.

Two people can care deeply about each other and still be unhealthy together. Two people can be trying their best and still create a dynamic that feels unsafe or unsustainable over time.

This kind of language is not about blame. It is about clarity.

If this post resonates, notice what comes up for you. Notice how your body responds. Notice the stories you tell yourself about what is “normal” or what you should tolerate.

Awareness often comes before change.

This post is for education and reflection only. It is not therapy or clinical advice.

Finding the right therapist matters.

To support better fit and more focused care, we have organized our services into clinical teams based on the populations we serve.

This means:
• Clearer pathways to care
• Thoughtful matching from the start
• Support that reflects your stage of life and needs

We are here to help, and we want you to feel better.

Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing more about each of our clinical teams so you can better understand the care options available to you.

If you are not sure where to begin, our intake team is here to help guide you.

WELCOME! 🎉

Starting Next Week

Cierra Bailey, B.A., B.Ed., RP (Qualifying)
Student Intern

Cierra is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and Student Intern completing her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology.

Cierra’s work focuses largely on perinatal mental health, parenting, and early family life. Cierra will work closely with Avril Ferguson, MA, RP, Founder and Clinical Director, and will receive specialized training and supervision with a focus on perinatal and parenting-related care.

We want to share a quick update with our community.

Starting January 1, 2026, session rates for new clients will increase by $10.

If you book an appointment in 2025, even if the appointment itself is in 2026, you will be considered a current client as of January 1 and your current rate will remain in place until March 1, 2026.

For all current clients, updated rates will take effect March 1, following the required notice period.

Reduced rate options will remain unchanged. We continue to offer reduced and pro bono sessions through our student and intern clinicians as part of our commitment to accessible care.

We know changes like this can bring up questions. Our admin team is always happy to help.

Thank you for being here and for trusting us with your care.
