💙 A new journey begins.

We are proud to welcome six amazing students: Haylee, Jeff, Sheldon, Isaac, Adam and Ryan. They are joining Norfolk General Hospital and the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home as Project SEARCH interns.

Project SEARCH is a partnership with the Grand Erie District School Board and the Norfolk Association for Community Living. The program gives students with intellectual disabilities the chance to build confidence, learn new skills and gain real job experience through placements in our hospital and nursing home. With classroom learning and support from teacher Ryan Nightingale and job trainer Jenn Vanden Hengel, interns are prepared for success after graduation.

The results are remarkable. Every graduate of Project SEARCH at NGH has gone on to secure employment. Around the world, about seventy percent of graduates find work within a year of completing the program.

👋 Meet Rob, a Help Desk Support Technician at Norfolk General Hospital (NGH).

It’s National I.T. Professionals Day, and we’re proud to shine the spotlight on Rob, and the important role our I.T. team plays in keeping the hospital running behind the scenes.

Rob joined NGH in November 2024 and quickly became a key support for our staff and physicians. Every day, he troubleshoots hardware, software, and network issues, manages support tickets, and helps improve our I.T. systems so staff can do their jobs without disruption.

While Rob doesn’t work directly with patients, his work has a big impact on care.

“As long as our systems are running smoothly, staff can focus on patients instead of technical issues. That’s where I feel I make the biggest difference,” Rob said.

What motivated Rob to choose a career in healthcare? For him, it’s about making a difference.

“I’ve always wanted to do work that matters. Working in a healthcare I.T. department, I get to use my skills to support a team that’s truly helping people every day.”

When asked what he enjoys most about coming to work, Rob didn’t hesitate: the people. From the I.T. team to hospital staff and leadership, he says everyone is friendly, supportive, and great to collaborate with. That collaboration, he adds, is what makes the I.T. team so strong.

To Rob, patient care isn’t just about what happens at the bedside. “For me, it’s about doing whatever we can, even behind the scenes, to support patients’ health and comfort. I.T. plays a big part in that.”

👋 Meet Amanda, a Clinical Analyst with the I.T. team at Norfolk General Hospital (NGH).

On National I.T. Professionals Day we are proud to recognize Amanda and the important role she and the I.T. department play in supporting patient care behind the scenes.

Amanda has been part of NGH for almost 18 years, most of that time as a Registered Practical Nurse. Recently, she moved into her new role as a Clinical Analyst, bringing her frontline experience to the technical side of care.

She now helps support the hospital’s Electronic Health Record system, the digital backbone of clinical documentation.

“Coming from a nursing background, I bring a frontline perspective to the team,” Amanda said. “If I can make documentation a little easier or fix a glitch that is slowing someone down, that makes a real difference.”

Her motivation has always been to help others.

“I wanted to do something meaningful and make a positive difference in people’s lives. As a nurse, that meant supporting patients and families directly. Now I get to support the staff who care for them. It is just a different kind of helping.”

Amanda says the best part of her new role is the challenge of learning something new and being part of a supportive team.

When asked what patient care means to her, Amanda shared, “Patient care means making sure people feel supported, safe, and seen. Even in I.T., we are working toward the same goal, helping staff give the best care possible.”

Today we celebrate Amanda and all of our I.T. professionals whose work helps make great care possible every day. Thank you, Amanda, for your dedication, teamwork, and commitment. We are fortunate to have you on our team. 👏😀❤

Today we celebrate the I.T. team at Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home, and Holmes House, dedicated professionals who keep our systems running smoothly. 💻

They keep every system secure, reliable, and connected. From troubleshooting network issues to implementing new technology, their work makes it possible for staff and physicians to focus on patients.

Without their hard work and expertise, we wouldn’t be able to provide the high-quality healthcare services our community relies on. 💙

This week is Environmental Services Week!

At Norfolk General Hospital (NGH) and the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home (NHNH), our Environmental Services (EVS) team helps make safe, quality care possible every day.

With more than 35 dedicated members, the EVS team works around the clock to keep our spaces clean, disinfected, and safe for patients, residents, families, and staff.

You may not always see them, but they are always there, working behind the scenes to ensure our hospital, nursing home and Holmes House run smoothly. Their efforts protect patients and residents, prevent the spread of infection, and create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

To everyone on our EVS team - thank you for the care, dedication, and pride you put into your work every single day. You are an essential part of our healthcare team, and we could simply not do this without you. 💙

The flag will remain in place until October 1 as we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30.

As part of our recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Norfolk General Hospital will host an Indigenous Health Information and Vendor Market.

📅 Date: Monday, September 22
🕙 Time: 10 a.m.–2 p.m.

We invite Indigenous health organizations, artisans, and food vendors to set up a booth and share your services, traditions, and products with staff, patients, and the community. This is a chance to connect, teach, and celebrate knowledge and culture that support health and well-being.
