It's "TALK LIKE A PIRATE DAY" so.......

Let's talk about our arrrrrr sound! 🦜🏴‍☠️

We have TONS of resources and tips to help with this sound; however, one of our favourite analogies is being a ninja in a doorway!

This doesn't work for all kiddos, but it is a great visual as most children have shimmied up a doorway before and can visualize this analogy!

👄 KEEP IN MIND: one thing we see often, is children coming in avoiding this sound or have established a wrong motor pattern for the sound as they've tried tips at home that aren't working and leading to frustration.

"Speech will just develop on its own, wait and see...."

We often have families waiting to refer because they've been told 👆 to wait and see....

🌟But know when to refer...

We've posted a quick guide on when most children master certain sounds:

👶 By age 3: p, b, m, h, n, w
👧 By age 4: t, d, k, g, f, y
🧒 By age 5: l, sh, ch, j, s, z
👦 By age 6: r, th (voiced like "this")
👩 By age 7: th (voiceless like "thumb")

Every child’s journey is unique, so use this as a basic guide to guage how on track your child is in developing their sounds.

These incredible ladies are gearing up for a fantastic morning of educating health professionals about supportive communication techniques for adults with aphasia.

Susie, Emily, and Chantelle are raring to get started!

Thanks to for organizing this event in partnership with the South Central Stroke Network! We're also grateful to for hosting us and providing a platform to share our passion.

Chantelle has put together communication kits for the hospital floors to facilitate supportive conversations with adults with aphasia, dementia, and other communication challenges.
