Does Sitting Hurt Your Tailbone?

The tailbone (coccyx) sits at the bottom of your spine and plays an important role in supporting your pelvic floor muscles. When this small area becomes irritated or injured, it can make everyday activities surprisingly uncomfortable.

Tailbone pain can develop after:

• A fall or direct trauma
• Surgery or childbirth
• Long periods of sitting (especially on hard surfaces)
• Activities like cycling or rowing
• Chronic straining or constipation
• Age-related changes

Common symptoms include:

• Pain when sitting
• Pain when standing up from sitting
• Tenderness when the area is touched
• Pain during bowel movements

At Aurora Physiotherapy, we understand that pain is not always just about the tissue. We use a biopsychosocial approach to identify what may be driving your symptoms.

Pelvic Health Physiotherapy can help by:

• Improving pelvic floor muscle function
• Reducing muscle tension
• Addressing constipation and breathing patterns
• Gentle hands-on treatment for muscles and connective tissue
• Coccyx mobility techniques
• Exercise and movement strategies
• Education about pain and posture

Tailbone pain can feel frustrating, but you don’t have to live with it. With the right assessment and treatment, many people see significant improvement.

Sore… or Actually Injured?

You had a hard workout.
You felt good after.

Now 2–3 days later…
Your legs hurt when you sit down or go up the stairs

So, you start thinking…
“Is this normal… or did I hurt myself?”

At Aurora Physiotherapy here, we hear this all the time.

It’s probably normal soreness if:
Your muscles feel tight and achy
You can still move almost normally
You’re a bit stiff, but still strong
It slowly gets better over a few days
That’s just regular post-exercise soreness (DOMS).
It happens when you try something new or push a bit harder than usual.
Gentle movement actually helps.

It might be an injury if:

The pain is sharp and very specific in one spot
You can’t move properly
You start limping or changing how you move
You feel real weakness
There is swelling
That’s when it could be a strain, tendon issue, or something that needs proper assessment.

Simple Rule:

* Soreness that improves with time = usually normal.
*Pain that changes how you move or don’t improve = get it checked.

Don’t just “wait it out” if something feels off.

We’re right here to help you figure it out early before it turns into a bigger problem.

Helping our community stay active, strong, and confident.

We’re so proud to support a national champion from our own hometown!

The team at Aurora Physiotherapy had the absolute honour of congratulating
Alexa Briones in person at our clinic on her incredible achievement at the 2026 Canadian National Taekwondo Championships.

At just 15 years old, Alexa captured Gold in the Junior Female -52 kg Kyorugi division and was also named Overall Best Female Athlete in Junior Kyorugi, an extraordinary accomplishment on the national stage.

What makes this even more special for us is seeing someone from our small town of Slave Lake representing this small community with such heart, discipline, and determination.

Alexa is proof that big dreams can grow right here at home, and her journey continues to inspire young athletes across our community.

We are incredibly proud to be part of her support.

Congratulations, Alexa !🙂
this is only the beginning, and We are cheering you on every step of the way! 💕

Pain in the Front of Your Knee?
Don’t Ignore It!

Do you feel a dull, aching pain around or behind your kneecap, especially when climbing stairs, squatting, running, or after sitting for long periods?
You may be dealing with Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS), commonly known as runner’s knee.

PFPS can affect athletes and non-athletes alike, and is especially common in young adults and females.
The good news is ,Physiotherapy is one of the most effective treatments.

Why does PFPS happen?

• Overuse and repetitive knee stress
• Sudden increase in activity or training intensity
• Poor kneecap tracking or alignment
• Weak or tight quadriceps and hip muscles
• Improper footwear or training surfaces

How Physiotherapy Helps

At Aurora Physiotherapy, we focus on the root cause, not just the pain.

✔️ Reduce pain and inflammation
✔️ Improve kneecap tracking and knee alignment
✔️ Strengthen quadriceps, hips, and core muscles
✔️ Improve flexibility and movement control
✔️ Guide safe return to work, sport, and daily activities
✔️ Prevent symptoms from coming back

Most cases of PFPS do NOT require surgery and respond very well to a personalized physiotherapy exercise program.

Don’t Push Through Knee Pain!

Ignoring knee pain can lead to long-term issues like cartilage irritation and reduced function.

Early physiotherapy = faster recovery and better outcomes.

Feeling dizzy or off balance?
Physical Therapy can help!

If you experience dizziness, vertigo, or balance problems, it may be related to an inner ear (vestibular) condition. Many people start avoiding movement or exercise because they are afraid of making symptoms worse, but avoiding movement can actually slow recovery.

At Aurora Physiotherapy, our Certified Vestibular & Concussion Management physiotherapists assess and treat dizziness and balance disorders using evidence-based vestibular rehabilitation.

How Physiotherapy Helps:

*Identifies the cause of your dizziness or imbalance.
*Uses customized exercises to improve balance and coordination.
*Trains your eyes and brain to work better when your head moves.
*Helps you safely return to daily activities and chores.
*Improves confidence, endurance, and overall physical health.

Simple activities like walking, bending, or household tasks may suddenly feel exhausting or unsteady. With guided therapy, you will learn safe strategies to manage these activities while gradually reducing dizziness.

Early treatment matters!

The brain and inner ear recover best in the first few months after injury, so starting physiotherapy early leads to better outcomes.

Don’t let dizziness control your life.

Book your vestibular assessment today at Aurora Physiotherapy and take the first step toward steady, confident movement again.
