It is well know that there are many barriers to accessing mental health supports.

IPS has created access to counselling by using a sliding fee scale from $50.00-$150.00 per session throughout Alberta. Each provider has trauma certification and Cultural sensitivity training. Not only do our providers take training every year, they experience cultural practices and learn why culture is so important in the healing process. Telehealth sessions available.
Call 587-594-9855.

Providers take EMDR, Somatic, Polyvagal and multiple modalities to help understand the brain and body. Providers also commit to Indigenous Awareness Trainings offered by Indigenous Psychological Services.

What is Indigenous Counselling?
Counselling that is trauma and culturally informed. It honours the Two-Eyed Seeing approach. Indigenous counselling understands the historical factors that have impacted our people. It also considers the current racism and barriers Indigenous people face daily. Providers require an on going commitment to learn how to work with trauma at a neuro molecular level and connect how culture tends to change the biology of a person’s nervous system and brain for the better.

What is?
Interns-currently completing Masters and supervised by a psychologist.
Therapist-completed their Masters.

Counsellors -are certified to do counselling, have a Masters degree.

Psychologist- are Regulated by CAP and registered with the province to provide therapy. Only Psychologist can offer FNIHB services.

What is different at our agency- all providers have to be certified in Trauma therapy, and take multiple Indigenous Awareness trainings throughout the year.

Trauma therapy restores regulation back into the nervous system and focuses on reprocessing patterns in the brain.
Intergenerational trauma, colonial trauma, historical trauma, relational trauma and developmental trauma require trauma modalities. Talk therapy that is not tied to body based healing can create harm and re traumatization.

Trauma can often closely be tied to substance use, mental illness, stigma, health care access barriers, breakdown in relation and other challenges.

Trauma-informed practice means recognizing this link, making sure that people feel safe and are not re-traumatized by their care. Talk therapy and cognitive therapies require additional therapies in order to heal the body. It’s important to ask your provider what type of modalities they use and why?
Ask your provider what trauma training they have in order to support the healing of your body and re-patterning the brain.
