Dze L K’ant Housing Society Breaks Ground on 41-Unit Indigenous Housing Project in Houston, BC

Houston, BC – 9 October, 2025– The Dze L K’ant Housing Society is pleased to announce the groundbreaking of our 41-unit affordable Indigenous housing project located on traditional unceded Wet’suwe’ten territory of the Gitumden clan and Laksilyu clan in Houston.

The project is funded by the Province’s Indigenous Housing Fund, through BC Housing, and is designed to provide safe, affordable, and culturally appropriate housing for low-income Indigenous families, Elders, and individuals living off reserve. The new development will be located at 3707 Niwhts'ide'nï Place, Houston (formally 3553 11th Street), a on municipally owned site secured through a long-term lease with the District of Houston.

🎃✨ Join Us for a Halloween Cookie Decorating Project! 🍪👻

The Dze L K’ant Friendship Centre Society, along with our MMIWG and Housing teams, is excited to announce a fun and creative Halloween cookie decorating event! This gathering is not just about decorating cookies; it’s about coming together as a community to support one another, share stories, and strengthen our networks.

Our Housing team and the MMIWG program are dedicated to providing safe spaces for dialogue and connection. This project aims to foster relationships, encourage collaboration, and celebrate our shared experiences as we work towards healing and empowerment.

👵👴 Exciting News from Our Senior Chef Program! 🍽️

Did you know we have over 45 elders registered for our Senior Chef program? We’re thrilled to see such enthusiasm for cooking and sharing meals together!

A big thank you to Mathew, Nika, Tara Lyn, and David for their dedication in providing deliveries over the past few months while we worked on replacing our stove, fridge, and freezer, and creating a more organized cooking space. Your hard work is truly appreciated!

In our program, we’ve cooked a variety of individual meals, shared information on specialized meals, and even enjoyed deliveries from Hugs Farm, bringing fresh vegetables right to our kitchen. We also offer individual meal delivery for those who need it.

We want to take a moment to acknowledge and thank the local groups who generously donate to this project by delivering fresh produce, as well as our partners for sharing their canning expertise. Your contributions help us create nourishing meals and foster community connections!

If you’re 65 or older and would like to join us for a space to cook with other elders and share meals, please send us a private message with your contact information or call Selina to register. We can’t wait to welcome you into our kitchen!
